If anyone doubts it's a tree-in-the-making, look at the 'trunk' on this one: Bricks are 9" long - so that's about two feet of welded-together ivy, donkey's years old - and full of mischief... OM.

Uh oh - what you gonna do with that little lot then ? Civil engineering... I've taken the topgrowth out, and when it's safe to be working outside with electricity, I'll take the anglegrinder to it at about 6' above ground, twice - to remove a chunk about 4" deep to stop it grafting itself back together. That should leave me with totally dead ivy above 6' to be removed as it lessens its hold on the wall, and a fan of living ivy below, which I'll attempt to manage. Ask me again in about a year if I actually ever did anything... OM.

When you've got the stump bit, try the crystals you put on the end of tree stumps to kill them and put a bag over the top. Worked really well with a few monsters here. Only thing is, I'm not sure if it was on the latest list of 'to be banned' stuff (along with Jeyes fluid and Derris dust ) so you might have to buy some quick.
