Today, i'd like to go to the garden centre. However, despite being completely non religious, i can't because it's illegal for most shops to open on easter Sunday...and that includes garden centres !!!

Gosh Andy, that must be different up here. I always had to work when I was at the GC. It was one of the busiest days of the year. Not surprised you are annoyed. mind you, I'm non religious.

Well Andy - sorry but be happy that you are in the UK - shops aren't open in Germany on a Sunday - no Sunday shopping whatsoever.
They allow a couple of times a year for furniture places etc and that is all.

Same here in the Netherlands. 5 times per year I think they are in some area's allowed to open on Sundays. Oh well forced peace and quiet for you then Andy.... maybe the weather is ok and you can do things in the garden.

It has been like it for quite a few years now Andy. There is one up the road from here that opens though. The profit must far out weigh the fine I guess. On every other Sunday we have another that, because the tills are not allowed to be opened before 11, doesn't open its doors until 11. All the rest open at 10 and allow you to wander and then pay at 11. Still get all those people who don't know what to do with Granny on a Sunday waiting for the cafe to open though. Chin up Andy, it could be sunny too ;D

Oops . Hope I haven't upset anybody . I think the fine is around £10,000 so for all of the big boys, B&Q etc, it's a drop in the ocean. Believe me, if we could open on Easter Sunday then we would definately do so S x
