Oh How I miss my Greenhouse- I am now having to sow seeds in the open ground because I have no Greenhouse now I have a few Sweetpeas left in the packet so will just sow them where I want them to grow!! If they dont come to anything I am off to the GC to get 'ready' grown ones--and do it the lazy way. This goes for other seeds that I used to grow I have always had a Greenhouse --but no more--so am having to adjust to a different way of sowing seeds and getting plants for the garden. I miss the 'pricking out' and watching them develop into sturdy plants- this was the Best part (for me anyway) of gardening--so therapeutic-- I shall miss taking cuttings/overwintering Fuchsias and some tender plants etc. It is "Feel Sorry for Biggles Time"

Aw What's happened to your greenhouse, Bigs? Can you fit a mini one in somewhere?

Aw Biggles! I sort of understand because I don't have a greenhouse, but then again I've never had one so don't miss one. Have you got a spare room you can keep cuttings in? I use the spare room windowsill because its bright, and the room is fairly cool. Also LP doesn't play in there so they are quite safe! At the moment I've got geranium cuttings and am chitting some potatoes for dad and myself. If you haven't got room for a little upright green house thingy, have you room for a coldframe?

Know what you mean Bigs - I had a lovely big one and thoroughly enjoyed using it..
However I now have 3 tiddlers (plastic ones) - and if you can find room for just one - they can be taken apart for the summer as well.

I know what you mean Biggles i would be lost without mine.Could you not find room for a little plastic one somewere. But hearing stories on here you will have to weight it down but at least it would give you somewere to put your seedlings. You would have to put it in a sunny spot to.

Big hug Biggs!! But at least you have reclaimed a bit of your garden now! That's a whole lot more garden than you thought you were going to play with a couple of months ago! I'm sure you'll soon have sawn off lemonade bottles over pots on the window cills.

My lovely friends-- you are all Great --Thanks you for your replies of encouragement and ideas-and thats what I need!! To be quite honest I was feeling so depressed especially at this time of year-about leaving my lovely garden-but have to accept it now.- RM-No Greenhouse--no Room-garden too small! RF--A Good idea-being able to 'take it down' for the summer Plocket Your idea of a cold frame does sound good because I can 'tuck' it up behind the plants at the back of the border beside the path--A project for the Summer ;D At the moment I have Sweetpeas/Parsnips/4 Cuttings of Fuschias and Canna Seeds on the window sills! so a small cold frame (made to measure) would help space-wise. Amo--Lovely comforting hug--yes you are right I must be "Be Thankful for small mercies" and drink plenty of Lemonade when the Hot Summer comes--then I will have mini-cloches Snowowl--Yes I'd best leave the mini plastic greenhouse after hearing about having to anchor them down--not just from the wind but from the Scallyways who sometimes think it "Fun" to move things on Friday nights-"Idiots Night"

My Aunt used to raise loads of seedlings, mainly geraniums, fuchsias, busy lizzies and begonias every year without a G/H. She did have a dining room tho' which was out of use for a couple of months while she nurtured her beloved seedlings! She then hardened them off in a cold frame before planting them out. Alas she's not really up to it now, she's 87 and having a few problems.
Have you got any room where you could do similar?

Plocket and SR, Unfortunately I haven't a spare room to do this I think the Cloche idea is the one I will go for. Too late for this year so will be buying Ready Plants for now. I also think once I have the 'Backbone' of the Garden going with Perenials and Shrubs I probally wouldn't need a Greenhouse after all. You Snowowl and RF have managed well without one ( and have lovely gardens) so I will just have to live without it!!
