Hi My friends have an aluminium framed, glass glazed greenhouse measuring 10ft by 16ft. They need to move it ( not very far) and turn it through 90degrees. The problem is that the glass ( as well as having the usual clips) is puttied in!!! Does anyone have any ideas as to how this could be removed, without breaking all the panes of glass, or how to move the greenhouse "whole"? They would welcome any advice as obviously it would cost a fortune to replace all the glass. They have tried to scrape out the putty, but it has been there for years and will not yield even when heated. Hope someone has a good idea - thanks

10ft by 16ft worth of glass is gonna be one hell of a weight to try and move in ine go and not get lots of breakage. If it was a shed I'd suggest straps threaded through and underneath the base and sheer man power with a little help from post strategically placed around the edges to give a little leveridge, lots of man power needed though. I reckon your'e gonna have to get the putty out unless they know someone who has some mechanical lifting gear.

We moved a similar GH years ago from 1 house to another and we did take all the glass out im afraid it will be impossible to move with the glass in because the frame will twist slightly when disturbed. It is doable though auricula but not in one piece.

The sheer weight of the glass will make it impossible to move unless the panes are substantially removed first.
One way that I have come across for loosening old putty is to apply hot linseed oil. As this is a constituent of the putty mixture in the first place it will soak in and should make it much easier to remove. This avoids the need to chip away the putty which carries the risk of breaking the glass.
If this doesn't work I would suggest speaking to a local glazier to see if they have any thoughts on the matter.
