We were supposed to be getting the coldest winter on record and the last two summers were supposed to break all records with high temperatures. I'll believe it when i see it

How do they know? They cant possibly tell what the weather is going to be in a few months. Blimey they dont always get it right for the next day - never mind predicting what will happen in a couple of months. I have ordered a hot summer with any rain to fall after dark and for the government to shut down the railways so I can have June, July & August off work !! ;D (I live in hope )

They predict it on weather patterns over the past 100 years or so. Or when the cows are lying down....which is probably more accurate. If they carry on predicting it....like they do every year, they are bound to get it right some day...law of averages (or law of a load of b*****ks :

Sounds perfect. If the tropical is during the day, and the wet is at night. ;D

I think I feel happy with the forecast as they normally get it wrong so it could be a scorcher ;D

If the Oak is out before the Ash,summer comes in with a splash, but IF the Ash is out before the Oak summer comes in with a soak

Right.... No oak in my area so every year should see rain. Hey that is right it does rain at times ;D Yes you guessed I have ended up an old cynic weatherforecast non believer.

Oh dear - someone has his knickers in a knot. Whats up Andy - you bit P'eed off mate? Nothing to do with my pants but yes....p'eed off because i get fed up with so called experts trying to predict what weather we will get. No one knows what summer we will have....or autumn or winter blah blah blah. I've heard it so many times before and i've also heard "the general public" being dragged in by it all and saying "oh my god, it's going to be tropical this year....let's go out and buy some crotons, anthuriums and cheese plants for the garden" Two years ago, we had a drought.....so Brighton council planned for last year by ordering more "drought tolerant" species for the bedding displays as yet another "scorching summer" was predicted....alas, it never happened. That's why i get so "p'eed off"

I never believe the weather these days! I open the curtains see how it is & then take clothes for every eventuality, been let down too often!
But I hope this summer isn't so wet as last!

I must admit that I tend to agree with andy - this morning I was reading the newspaper and slurping my first coffee as the radio weather man threw a small wobbly about people thinking that they could predict what the summer would be like.
He says that is is nigh to impossible and they had enough problems getting a prediction that was 80% accurate for three days.
Both my OH and I just looked at each other - the first time that either of us had "officially" heard that it isn't likely that such a prognosis could be accurate.

;D How true that is ! Summer will be more weather, just a bit warmer than the cold weather ;D "they" cant possibly predict what its going to be like so why dont they just belt up and wait and see like the rest of us Whatever happened to that bloke who used to be on Jonny Walkers programme on radio 2 - he did it with seaweed and stuff and was quite good at it - fetch him back

so as i said( on a different thread) they can't predict global warming either, they can't predict anything accurately 'cause the temps have actually dropped this centuary, so next they will tell us to watch out for an ice age.

Global freezing is a possibility Barbara...if the "Atlantic conveyor" switches off (the current that runs from the tropical atlantic/caribbean up past Ireland)....we will freeze. According to most weather predictors...this is probably going to happen on June 2nd

But having an Ice Age etc is all part of the proscess of living on this glorious mud ball. It's happened a few times before, of course its going to happen again. We, as humans, are not the only part of it. How much polution do you think was in the air when 90% of solid land was volcanic?

Erm............. not a clue, Quite a lot? Nobody really knows do they. Its all supposition anyway. I'd like to think that my efforts at recycling etc are helping a bit, but the damage is done. We just have to wait for the consequences now These things take years and years to alter so I dont think we have to panic just yet, but then what about last year Crikey - maybe we should be panicking! I just hope we have a summer that is at least recognisable as summer and not a repeat of last year. As I said, we will just have to wait and see ........ Dont think this is all a ploy to get people to buy papers do you?
