to the new Gardeners World format? I liked it, Monty and carol are not my favourite presenters but I thought it was good. Not too keen on the music, but it will probably grow (!) on me. Overall I thought it was a vast improvement, and Joe - whats with the allotment tease - you bad un ;D

I mainly noticed that everyone had very muddy hands ;D Five minutes wasted at the end showing how they did the music and titles though IMHO Content was OK, personally not a fan of lilac, but everyone likes different things. Did I learn much? Not a lot really Look forward to seeing if Joe did as good a job as FA x Tig

;D He does not stand a chance as FA is doing it on his own with just his family as helpers and somehow I feel Joe will get more help. ( So FA's efforts are on no 1 ) I have to get used to the more lazy tune and I do not like it that when there is a subtitle you get this big green blob it sits in. It gets in the way of the plants seen behind the subtitle. Everything else is fine. I like that we now get Carol at her home base doing jobs so more different gardens and insights into what a garden may look like. Same with Joe doing his allotment. I feel this is a big improvement as they now can show a wider variety. I do hope they give it enough time though. Having said that I just realized we are going to get more 1 hour shows. Yippy bring on the entertainment.

I really enjoyed it. Lots of good, varied content and I'm looking forward to development of both Carol and Joe's projects. I like Carol - her enthusiasm is genuine I think - certainly does it for me, anyway

Have to confess I haven't watched GW for ages and ages, probably only a few times since Alan T stopped presenting Have just watched it on IPlayer and really enjoyed the most part of it Some interesting reminders of things we sometimes forget. I guess there will always be bits that are not of interest to some. I had a laugh at Monty. When he was on his knees on that gravel path planting. I thought ouch you don't want to be doing that too often, your poor old knees, get and old cushion and put it in a poly bag like I do. Then later when he was getting up from picking up pots of Delphiniums he did grunt as he got up, just like I do ;D Alys seems a sweet quite old fashion girl, liked her. Loved the Toby B's bit about the potential for using unlikely things in a garden, old stone from the school and prunnings to make plant supports. Joe S will be as fit as a fiddle 45 mins bike ride to his lottie Carol is as passionate as ever about her garden, it's lovely and makes me green with envy. I love the way she thinks about recycling everything like putting the gravel on the paths from that border. I wonder how many plants she has in it are from elsewhere ;D There were quite a few hints and tips throughout the prog that we all need reminding of now and again. The feature gardens were interesting, although I curse Lilac for shooting up everwhere and the fact that the flowers don't last that long, I bet that walk was heavenly when all those Lilacs were in bloom, the perfume and all those fab colours too. The Delphiniums looked fantastic, sooooo tall and colourful. You really need to put in the work to keep them like that. All in all I'll be watching it again from now on

It's a huge improvement on what we've had. I enjoyed it. As it's all we've got, let's hope it can get better as the season goes on.

Ooo yes Chuckles, I liked the recycling bits as well. I didn't catch the name of the guy who was talking about letting things self seed. I loved that bit most I think. Did he remind anyone else (other than me!) of Geoff Hamilton? Something about the way he talked and interacted with his plants......

I know what you mean Shrubrose, I couldn't think who he reminded me of until now. I have seen him on other things to (the abismal Garden Invaders I think?) and thought he was quite good. We have a lot of recycled stuff in our garden (mostly brick/stone Karl has liberated from demolition sites!) and the greenhouse is almost all recycled material. We have a few bricks and bits of stone left over and he is on about getting a skip to get rid of them, but I feel guilty about not using them I hope to be able to raise more plants from cuttings this year (never had much luck) and I also want to collect some seeds if I can. I am looking forward to seeing more of Joe - I think he is great. Not as keen on Carol, she's a bit ott for me, but I love her garden - its really lovely. Good start to the new series.

His name is Toby Buckland and he's been on quite a few gardenig programmes. He's really into recycling and being as green as possible - I think he's designed a garden with that theme at GWLive but I'm not sure if it was last year or the year before.
I love the new GW. Very pleased it's an hour long. I like the different bases for different bits etc and I'm looking forward to seeing Joe's lottie. I like Monty Don anyway so I usually enjoy GW.

I just happened to fancy watching GW, which I haven't done for ages. I didn't know they'd changed the format! AND I didn't switch on 'til 8.20 'cos I was expecting it at 1/2 past! Then my Sister rang me at 8.50 so I missed the end!
I did like the 1/2 hour I saw though and will be there at 8 next fri!!

Thanks KL and, for the link, Amo. He seems to be quite prolific on UKTV doesn't he? We dont get that so it could explain why I haven't come across him before.

Enjoyed last nights GW Joe is not making as good a job of his allotment as Karen and FA, all the things he said he wouldn't do - then he did! Will it be a lesson in how to grow grass and mares tail? And I loved the reaction of his fellow allotmenteers to his diamonds and triangles, typically British ;D And a shed on pallets - is he preparing for a rodent city? Carols bit was interesting, the seed collecting and propagating the root cuttings especially. The time she spent with the couple in their 'new' garden, and the blank looks on their faces when she asked them what time the sun shone on the plot they want to use for their veggies said it all Looking forward to watching the next installment. x Tig

I didn't watch it last night as the new GW format versus the once a year US Masters Golf, was no contest in favour of the golf. ;D I might just take a peak via the iPlayer though. Much more convenient than videoing it.

Loved it again last night! Thought it would take Joe weeks to get his 'acres' sorted but no, in comes the heavy machinery and hey presto - a pristine stretch of soil. ;D Reckon he's really going to pay for using that rotivator though - 'weed city' springs to mind!!!
Couldn't believe he got a serviceable shed for £25. Wonder if Chuckles saw that bit ;D ;D Amazing! Looked the part though, didn't it?

Dunno about serviceable shed - more like dead shed - did you see the state of it ;D It looked alright when they put it on the allotment tho. Fancy a professional gardener using a rotivator on such a weedy patch - he is gonna regret that as soon as the sun starts warming up the soil I had a laugh at the other allotmenteers reaction to the fancy shapes, bet they think he is a right poncy git ;D Carol did my head in as usual, those two came across as a bit dippy hippy types who dont really know what they are doing. Still I'm sure Carol will steer them in the right direction. Only little moan about it is that bloody "background" music it really got on my nerves if they could do something about that it would be a perfect gardening hour despite Mrs Over Enthusiastic

Well last nights was much better. Joe seemed to admit that he's still going to have to dig, dig and dig again before planting in the weed heaven he's created.
If Monty is going away for a few weeks, why, oh why does he have to hand the reins over to the gushing Carol??? What on earth is wrong with just leaving it to Alys??? She is fantastic as a gardener, well spoken, concise and knows her stuff AND SHE IS THERE 24/7!!!

tbh Amo I think that Alys is being primed to play a bigger part in the future. She is new to presenting (isn't she?) and prolly needs to get used to it...she's a FT gardener and knows her stuff so good luck to her.
I like Carol achully ;D I know she gushes a bit...but some people do, it's part of her personality and she does know her stuff so I'm quite happy for her to take over for a while. Joe's spot was enjoyable..it is obvious that he's new to the allotment-eering and is all fired up! I can't have an allotment atm...maybe one day...but I'm enjoying Joe's (and all of the lovely ones on here o'course)
