snooping around for a new thread, found one.
wellies, luv um. short ones, long ones, thin, fat or pretty pink garish ones,
actually, mine are green at the moment, Aigles, french stuff, did have pretty pink ones with
flowers, but they did n't like digging, or any form of vague gardening, more of a posers welly (were a present), bless......
so,
as you might of surmised, we have to thank the 1st duke of wellington (irish born, came from somerset) he who kicked
napoleons tush at waterloo, in the early 19thc.
field boots were made of hessian.uuoohh. smelly
. wellington commissioned a knee high,
flat healed, calfskin, pull on, boot. went down a storm. plenty a 19thc dandy acquired them
for their wardrobe.
and then, charles goodyear (discovered vulcanization of rubber, improving elasticity with heat, sulfur & other things) met mr hutchinson(?). charles stayed in britain, and thus goodyear tyre's etc was founded, whilst mr hutchinson(?) came to france and made wellies for the poor serf farmers, of whom 95% were standing in muddy fields in clogs. bless. went down a storm.
mr hutchinson(?) named his new company "a la aigle", to the eagle, in memory of his homeland. now it's just "aigle". of which i have a pair on my feet. bless.
i can't really imagine how to improve them. they're sooooo comfortable, you forget your wearing them. have turned up at school, supermarkets, & cups of tea unaware i've forgot to change my shoes ;D, silly b*gger.
i can imagine when i go to the final big composter in the sky, (eehhh, gardeners heaven)
i hope i'm wearing them, huge big tartan red ones, with enormous happy pom poms on draw strings at the top, & pockets on the side, where i'd keep
my pruning knife in one, and another for my sectors.
customised wellies would be such an advancement in the garden. i know you can buy kitsch ones, but do they really work, real rubber works best. none of this nasty hard plastic, eehhh
any one luv their wellies? ;D
