what this is. It's an annual, it appears every year in large clumps. I don't remember ever planting it. It may even be a weed, I've no idea. Have you?

Looks like Alkanet, Pentaglossis sempervirens a perennial wild flower.

Yes I think you are right Andy. We have it growing side by side with its annual cousin (Myosotis).

Hm, I thought it was brunnera macrophylla too but mine doesn't get that tall and EG's leaves are pointed whereas mine are more rounded

My mate just popped round and he's an exceptionally good plantsman and he said it was brunnera too.
If you google image it, the pics are almost identical

IT also has fine prickles which, although quite soft, are quite painfull too.

Am sure I see some of this when I go out walking - will take camera later and see if I can see any - flowers rather sim to speedwell - really pretty anyway
