I've grown so many spring bulbs this year but it is the first time for me. I need some of the pots now for other things. I gave them all a good feed about 10 days ago and have lifted them soil and all and put them into a big compost bag to dry out. Will that be ok do you think? can I then replant them next year again.

I did that for the first time last year LNG. I do the containers at my boy's school and after the daffodils have finished the pots look a bit messy at the front door so I didn't want to wait for the leaves to die back naturally. I dug up the daffodils and the tulips, put them soil and all into big spare plastic pots and tucked them into a corner in the garden. They got watered and fed and the leaves fell off eventually! Last September I planted the pots up and the daffodils came up again beautifully. The tulips were another matter altogether but I think I should have just bought replacements after reading the tulip thread on this board. Sorry that was a long winded way to say I think most of your bulbs will be fine!

Thanks for the reply Jasmine, it's hard to know what to do sometimes. I wonder why the tulips did'nt come back? Glad to know however that the others should be ok. I'll have to look for the tulip thread.

I can't find a thread which tells me what to do with my tulips when they're over. It seems some folks keep them and others treat them as annuals. I could'nt throw anything out so I'll hold onto them and hope for the best. ;D

I can't do a link LNG but the tulip thread is under 'Beds and Borders' and it isn't too far down the 1st page. It is just entitled 'Tulips'.

Thanks Jasmine, I found the tulips thread. I don't hold out much hope for my tulips doing well next year but I've lost nothing by lifting them. I will most likely buy more in the autumn anyhow.
