I spent some of yesterday making a Busy Lizzie and Bacopa Snowflake hanging ball. The thing is the only two matching sized baskets I could find are 16 inch. So the ball is big and very heavy Karl has put it outside on top of one of the chimney pots until we conclude the debate on where its going to live and the weather warms up, and we can get round to buying a hefty chain and bracket for it. Thing is this ball is really heavy and I dont have room in the GH for it. So will fleece be sufficient to protect the busy lizzies from any frost?

Are we due any more frost? I'd be tempted to risk bunging it out without fleece, although the fleece would help if you have some and are worried. As for a substantial bracket, I wish you luck! I'm sure that Karl is more than capable of hanging it properly, WHEN you find something strong enough. If you don't find a suitable bracket, could you stick it on top of a pole?

I have always kept my things "alive" with fleece. I actually never pack the sack full of fleece in the cellar until the middle of June , just in case.
I hope you find something strong enough to hold it but Plocket's idea is good.
A few years ago I had a thick pole left over from something (can't remember what now) and my OH got it in the ground - secured it well and then put a wooden top on it and I used it for 3/4 years for hanging baskets - it worked well and looked good.
I also unscrewed the bird table from it's legs (3) and OH again screwed a wooden top on it and I put heavy hanging baskets on top of it. It worked really well although it just took too much room up.

My Buzzie Lizzies have been out in the garden for a couple of weeks now, but I'm a long south from you!

Fleece it is then. Mum reckons that fleece will be alright, so she will be in trouble if it all goes wrong wont she ;D Thanks for the advice, we are still "discussing" the final site for the ball always assuming it survives the next few weeks and it looks nice, if not its in the bin (I am getting ruthless!!)
