As some of you know, i look after a large, 2 acre rock garden run by Brighton council. There used to be 5 people maintaining it but now alas, there's only me. I therefore have to prioritise what i do and all of the areas that are visible from the main A23 take priority.
That means the areas at the back of the garden tend to get neglected.
That is until now. There are a group of volunteer gardeners who are mainly elderly and/or retired and use gardening as a way of keeping fit. They are currently deployed by our countryside rangers and today, the rangers came and asked me if there's anything that i want doing...any kind of projects.
So on Thursday, i have 20 volunteers coming to do some weeding and strip out an old heather bed. After that, the sky's the limit for them.
Hopefully i can teach them a few bits of horticulture too.
Exciting times ahead

That'll be a brilliant help to you. I had to drop my Mum at the local hospital yesterday and someone had tried to plant up the flower beds but the plants were being taken over by weeds. I just thought there were probably local people who would give up a little time to sort out the flower beds. It's a shame. On another note (but related) I was reading one of the Percy the Park Keeper books at school last week and tried to explain what a park keeper was - children now don't know what they are/were or what they did.
