This delightful little plant is very prolific - grows in the lawn, the empty areas of the borders and even in very little soil on the column in this pic. Does anyone have an idea as to what it's called? I'd love to know.

Looks like one of the many species of speedwell (is it veronica ?). You can buy cultivated varieties...i have a lovely one on my rockery at home, there are wildflower types...they grow usually on chalky downland and they can be a weed.
Lovely plant though

Yes I would say Speedwell too. None in my garden but there's a lot of it on the side of the track where we walk the dog.

I have it growing all over the place too - I treat it as a weed though, and pull it out, even though it is tiny (and prettyish)!

Thanks folks. I'm happy to leave it for now as I have a fair bit of bare earth - anything that looks reasonably useful or pretty can stay for a while
