Having just spotted Abutilon mentioned in the Wisteria thread, I thought I would ask a question ...
I bought 2 of these last year. Planted them at Easter (either side of the rose arch with the 2 Clematis Montana). They were in flower when I planted them and stayed flowering throughout the whole summer and well into autumn. They didn't grow very much, just flowered and flowered and flowered.
So far this year, they have done absolutely nothing! A few leaves have come back but it hasn't grown in the slightest - just looks pretty much like a sad old twig really.
I don't know if I did something wrong (didn't do anything with it, so maybe that was what I did wrong) or maybe it just doesn't like where it is. It gets a lot of sun throughout the day and into the evening.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I may dig it up and try it elsewhere.

I hope so!
Solanum has been on my shopping list for ages ... just needed to figure out exactly where to put one! Having found that thread earlier and read it, I know exactly where it's gone.
I look forward to saying "help - my abutilon and solanum are driving me crazy!"
;D

Did you give it a good prune in spring. They are tender depending on where you are. I have had one for a few years now & I just take it in when it's really cold. I take about 2/3rds off them in spring when I repot them. Have you seen kentish belle. It's a lovely one. Janet.

Haven't pruned it at all ... it seemed too tiddly! I noticed at the weekend that one of them has got about 5 or 6 tiny flower buds, and there are a couple on the other too.
I live in North Somerset - probably fairly mild in comparison to other areas of the country.
Fingers crossed that it perks up a bit. Might give it a feed and see if we can get it going again. Shall bear in mind about pruning in Spring - thanks.
