Ah the true king of trees that is sexually confused!! I have two. And I have hundreds of babies I yank out each year as well.
I don't think they have wandering roots like a willow but they will be under the spread of its canopy. Mine are big enough to be TPOed, well they are quite a lot big, two of us can hardly hug one.
The biggest fault I have found is that they are brittle shedders. Any fairly stiff wind and the lawn is littered with branches of all sizes! If you leave it up, don't let it spread too far over any glass roof!
And I would suggest you perhaps take proffesional advice. Sometimes more damage is done by removing a tree than leaving it. The roots shrinking as they die and the extra water left as the tree isn't taking it up can be probs too!!

I often think about this problem, because there was a time when I worried about it. When I'm driving along I often see huge trees within feet of houses. And the houses look perfectly fine, no hint of subsidence. In fact, my own house is surrounded by trees, and no damage has been done at all. If large trees always did damage, there would hardly be any houses left in some streets nationwide. And it is true that more damage can be done by changing things. If everything looks fine on close inspection, I'd try to stop worrying. Or employ a surveyor.
