They are amazing to watch but I like having my feet on the ground too. A head teacher I worked with got a hot air balloon flight as part of her retirement present - she had mentioned in an assembly at some point that she would like to go on one. I still think about it now and have always hoped she really ment what she said rather than just saying something that popped into her head at the time because I'm with you Jenny - I couldn't set off in one - prezzie or not!!

My mum has always wanted to go up in a balloon so we bought her and dad a trip for her 60th birthday. She absolutely LOVED it!

My daughter bought me a trip in a balloon for my 50th. Unfortunately a very old neighbour decided she wanted to come with me, despite being well over the age limit. (she lied : . Trying to get her into the basket was a nightmare, then for some reason the balloon had to land in a field pretty soon after take off, and made rather a bumpy landing. A man stumbled on to the old lady, and because she had osteoporosis, he broke her hip bone. So that was the end of the trip. An ambulance was called, a tractor had to ferry her to it, and we had all to trudge back to the road to be picked up. But the worst was yet to come. Someone persuaded the old lady that she could sue the company for damages. I was distraught, because I felt so sorry for the owner, he was just working on his own, and was a really nice man. Don't think her claim would have got off the ground ( ) any more than the balloon did. Anyway, my dream flight was ruined. As was everyone elses. We were all offered another flight, but my heart wasn't in it. One day..........................................

Thanks for sharing that WT, if your neighbour lied about her age I don't think she would have had a leg to stand on in litigation Definitely not on my 'things to do before I pop off' list now x Tig

Me too Andy. But having spoken to people who have done it, it is so good, you want to do it again. And again. And again. Do we really need another obsession
