Hi all - I sowed these around this time last year, and now they're about ready to flower. My question is - are they true biennials, or perennials grown as biennials (like hollyhocks)? I.e. is there any chance of their surviving into next year, or do I need to sow them again now? ... cheers ...

hi C.C. i found a web page where the writer said that he'd managed to get them to flower for an extra year, but on the whole he had to replace them with new plants.

I've never had to resow, plus they have seeded themselves about a bit too. They're in a fairly shady, dryish spot in an east facing area of the garden.

I have never managed to get more than one years flowering out of mine, which are in a dry, sunny border, but they do self seed very nicely.

Too early to know whether they'll come back, Barbara, but they are gorgeous - purple and pink, double and single, mixed in with a few foxgloves - will take pics tomorrow. I also have a couple of perennial Campanulas which I bought at a garden show a while back - Campanula Punctata and another one with deep purple single bells, both of which I divided before planting out .... so next year will hopefully have even more! Oh, for a bigger garden ;D
