I signed too! In my ignorance, I never realised we pay the full VAT on stuff for growing and gardening....how bl**dy shortsighted! Typical though - the government isn't very interested in saving the planet at all, never mind encouraging its citizens to feed themselves.....

It is 5% on veg seed at the moment 4P, the argument is that all things, whether ornamental or veg are a bonus to the environment and should work together. One brings in more beneficial insects to polinate the other etc.
