OH & I have been thinking about getting a cat. We homed a stray from cats protection 2 yrs ago, but the wee lamb was terrified of my husband, which was unfortunate cos at the time he worked from home. After a week of her being stressed we gave her back.
We have been thinking about it recently again so had a look at the local website & then gave them a call.
We thought a pair would be best as I work all day & OH works in the mornings, there was a few pairs to choose from, but I fell for a couple of sisters called Hops & Barley straight away.
We went to see them today, we were warned that they are quiet & timid & having to be rehomed as the toddlers terrorise them and they are frightened of them.
Well the current owner, had her kiddies asleep locked in the car & we went in to meet the moggies. Hops ran straight to my husband & was in his arms in seconds. Barley the more timid of the two came straight to me & although she doesn't like being picked up, as I kneeled down she head butted me & proceeded to lick my hand. So that was pretty much settled.
Off we headed to buy a litter tray, food, etc etc. We hope to collect them at some point this weekend & will of course take piccies of the gorgeous wee lumps. Both are Manx cats & really cute! ;D
Fingers crossed all goes well!

Well we picked them up on Saturday morning & they are settling in just fine. Hops is the grey long hair & Barley the black tortie short hair. We confirmed with the CP tonight that we are happy to keep them! Gorgeous wee furry lumps! ;D

Thanks!
They seem settled, have their favourite spots & the most adorable characters. They are desperate to explore outside especially Hops but the CP has suggested keeping them in for 3 weeks so that the homing instinct goes because they have been homed from only a mile away. Which is unusual apparantly but they never went further than the gaden so the assume it will be ok.
I have been on line to buy them new safety collars this morning & need to change their microchip registration to us.

Aren't they beautiful!! And it's so rewarding giving them a new loving home isn't it?

They seem settled now, much less jumpy at new noises and now spend more time with us rather than hiding under the bed.
Hops is the lapcat of the two enjoying being picked up, cradled like a baby & her tummy rubbed. Barley is affectionate too but in her own way, she comes to you & will not be picked up, she is the chattier of the pair.
Am researching pet insurance and not sure what each of them is offering as we have never had pet insurance before, more research required it would seem!

I use healthy pets for my 3 and Eric. Comes to 16 squiddly for all 4 of them and that's the "silver" level of cover, there's cheaper and more expensive.

Thanks for the tip for pet insurance April, thing is, I have been looking at quotes & get the price but don't really know what the cover covers (if that makes sense). Besides which having never had pets other than fish, I have no idea what cover i need.

Well, I got the middle cover. I don't really need cattery fee things or holiday cancellation things on account of never going anywhere and not using catteries.
I just wanted one with a couple of thousand pounds of vets fees covered, ongoing conditions covered ie if one of them developed diabetes they would cover that condition for the life of the policy or the cat, whichever goes first....
Legal cover isn't as important for cats as they're not something people are obliged to swerve for unlike dogs. Unfortunately.
I could probably get away with the lowest level of cover but I wanted the higher vets fee cover.

Well last weekend we let them outside & they really love it, they started by not going much farther than our garden, but have now started jumping the wall to venture in to our neighbours garden (I do hope they don't mind!) The two of them have that I have seen looked in the windows of 2 of our neighbours now (I am embaressed! LOL) ;D

CAT PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! One of the girls has started peeing on Oh's sofa, in the wee hours of the morning! We suspected an infection of some sort, so took them to the vet last night. Vet reckons not, but Hops needs an operation. I can't remember what the vet called it but its a genetic thing where her body reabsorbs some of the teeth, her wee mouth is red & sore looking. She can't tell us how long it has been like that and I feel bad for not noticing. She is still eating drinking & running around. That was the first I have been in a vets and I now have to abandon her there next Thursday for her operation!

I can now post that ma wee Hopsy is fine, I took her to the vet & then cried on the way home! I took a day of work, cos I didn't think I could concentrate. Ended up doing housework at a frenzied pace, carrying the mobi & house phone around in my apron pocket! lol. The vet eventually phoned & said she was fine and I cried again! . She has had two teeth out & has learned the joys of soft food as has her sister. Not sure if they will return to the dried stuff.
