My mum's cat Angel who was knocked over last week and I moved a poor ginger tabby pussy cat out of the road yesterday morning on my way to work. I moved it to the side of the road but there was no collar so I couldn't phone the owners to let them know what had happened I got a little upset about that. I'm quite morbid this evening aren't I?! It just really upsets me to know that people will not care that they have hit an animal and not even have the courtesy to move it out of further harm.

Oh April, sorry to hear of your Mum's cat. I was once saying 'goodnight' to my Ma and Pa April after they'd spent the evening with us. We lived on a main road and were seeing them to their car . It was gone midnight and quiet out. In the distance I heard a car and saw it approach us travelling at speed. At the same time, a cat appeared and was making it's way across the road. There was no way the driver of the car could not have seen it - nothing to block visibility, clear night, nothing else on the road. He kept on coming, hit the cat and carried on. I was too shocked to get the number of the car, not that it would have been of any use. We found the cat under a parked car - terribly injured. In tears I contacted an 'on call' vet and took it to their surgery. There was nothing that could be done other than to save it further pain. I just dont understand why someone who calls themself 'human' would do that.

Oh My Gosh what dreadful stories - poor April and how awful for you Shrub to have to deal with a dreadfully injured cat - you are very brave - did it have a collar?
I was behind a car once that was travelling really fast and in front I could see a Hen crossing the road really slowly - the driver did his best to hit the Hen as he revved up and thank goodness he didnt
I was so shocked I didnt get his number just was so thankful the Hen lived
These are sadistic perverts in my opinion

I saw someone hit a pheasant but they are notoriously stupid and I actually watched it run into the side of the car so nothing much the guy could've done. I moved that out of the road too.
And Mum was rather upset about Angel. Thing is, she was a rescue cat from the same place as Toffee and Pudding and she was up there because she'd been knocked over before!! It's a jinx that house is for pets anyway. There are now 4 cats and 2 rabbits buried in that garden! 3 of those cats were mine and 3 of them were knocked over on the road at the front.

I'm feeling a bit sad at the moment. My persian cat was diagnosed with kidney failure about 6 weeks ago and put on tablets. For a few weeks she was fine but has suddenly gone downhill fast. She's hardly eaten since Monday and today the vet says she also got cancer of the blood. I think I have to make the inevitable decision but am feeling very upset about it. I cant keep pumping her full of stuff just to make her feel about for a little while. All she wants to do is drink and go back in the cat carrier. I have to take her back to the vet tomorrow - its almost as if she's telling me what to do.
The ver has also asked me if i want to re-home a cat that was badly injured in a road accident adn had to have a leg amputated. The orginal owners apparently didn't want to know and the vets have been looking for a home for him for several months. I very tempted to give him a home anyway - hope I'm not sounding callous. I just can't resist a cat in need of a home!

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat BB, I hope that she isn't suffering too mush. (or you either) The poor cat that has lost it's leg is better off without it's callous owners....how can they possibly turn their back on it just beacuse it has lost a leg? ?? How would they feel if it was one of them?

I know we get an awful lot of pleasure from our animals, but then there's the downside when we have to part with them. I've had to do it a few times over the years and it never gets any easier.

Borderbabe - so sorry to hear about your poorly pussy It is so difficult when we love them so much, they are part of the family I always try to think in terms of if I were the animal what would I prefer pain and suffering or the long sleep If you can give the other poor animal a good home that would be very generous of you, I'm sure he would appreciate a loving owner x Tig

Oh BB, what a shame about your poor cat , but you know it is all about quality of life and you must let her go If you give that other poor unwanted cat a home it might take your mind off your loss a bit, and give you something to cuddle

I know this is going to have you all in tears I'm filling up thinking about it but it has always helped me through that tough time If it should be.......... If it should be that I grow weak And pain should keep me from my sleep Then you must do what you must be done For this last battle can’t be won You will be sad, I understand Don’t let your grief then stay your hand For this day more than all the rest Your love for me must stand the test We’ve had so many happy years What is to come can hold no fears You’d not want me to suffer so The time has come to let me go Take me where my needs they’ll tend And please stay with me until the end Hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see I know in time that you will see The kindness that you do for me Although my tail its last has waved From pain and suffering I’ve been saved Please do not grieve it must be you Who has this painful thing to do We’ve been so close, we two, these years Don’t let your heart hold back the tears

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Sadly Mindy passed away on Friday and we decided to adopt the cat with the missing leg and collected him over the weekend. The other cat is not amused at being growled at in his own home but I hope eventually they will become friends. He's called LJ - like Long John Silver! He black and white and very agile - stairs are no problem to him or finding a comfy sofa. I don't regret the decision to take him or the speed it all happened sometimes these things are meant to be. I'll try to post some photos when I figure out how to do it!

It's rotten isn't it BB and it does take a while to get over it but eventually all the happy times you shared come back as memories and make you smile. I had a lump in my throat Chuckles, reading that poem!

BB, so sorry about your Mindy , but good news about LJ . I know you can't replace Mindy but hopefully LJ will give you just as much love and pleasure in his own way That's apart from the warm glow of having done something really good by adopting him Pics soon please.
