I inherited a contorted willow tree when a neighbour moved last year.
It is in a large terracotta pot and is approx 7 - 8 ft tall. I mulched it with manure last winter and it has been regularly watered and I have given it the odd liquid feed as well. It has also been given vine weevil treatment too.
For some reason, during the last 4 - 5 days, the top has wilted badly and quite a few of the leaves have now started to go yellow and it is losing its leaves.
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be wrong with it?

Might be caused by overwatering which is affecting the oxygen levels in the soil. Try easing off on the watering. Most shrubs and trees in pots only need about an inch of water on the top per week.

Have a look closely at the leaves to see if anything is eating them....something is munching its way through my willows at a rate of knots and i can't find what !!!!
If there's any watering problems, i'd say it was too dry....willows love water and will happily grow with their roots submerged by the side of a lake.
If you can take the plant out of the tub to see what the roots are like, that might help too....Willows are notorious for producing big root systems so it might need potting.

Hi DG/Andy
Many thanks for your suggestions. I did wonder if it might need a new pot. From what I know, I think the tree has been in the same pot since it was bought a good few years ago (more than 4 years anyway), and I know that for some reason there seems to be quite a bit of gravel in the soil. Unfortunately, I cant take it out of its pot as it is well and truly in there. I think I will try to get it a new pot and will just have to sacrfice its existing one by smashing it off the root ball.
