Probably not a new tip particularly, but thought I would share it anyway.
2 of my baskets are so stuffed that watering them has become pretty impossible so I filled up a huge water bucket (sometimes called "fun tubs") with water and I submerse them in there, hooking them on the edge.
I have got a good system going now with watering my 5 baskets - much easier to submerge them!

Thank you Marble. You may just have solved a small problem for me. I got the OH to put up 2 brackets for my hanging baskets - one either side of the kitchen window. That'll look nice we thought. What neither of us had thought about was that one of them was then hanging directly above the cat flap If I water in situ, I get a very annoyed, very wet cat! I'll be taking it down and dunking it in future. Blod

That's a good idea Marble - I usually only do that when I plant them up to make sure they are really wet. I tend to water mine every day and hopefully that's enough. Blod I'm laughing at your poor cat. You'll have to get your OH to make a little porch so that the water drains off either side of the catflap! ;D (I've got a couple of nice Welsh slate roof tiles if you want them!!! )

It was a moment of inspiration a few weeks ago because I was finding it impossible to water the 2 big ones.
I dunk one, fill up a watering can and water pots at top of garden, take basket out, put in next one, fill up watering can water next section of pots, take basket out, blah blah blah ... you get the gist!
I have been watering (dunking!) the baskets every other day and they seem to be fine ... and I think they are retaining more water than they would do normally from traditional watering!

... just have visions of a cat standing under its porch, waiting for the "rain" to go over ...

I tried this last year but found that after they had been soaked they were a bit heavy to lift back onto their hooks...now I just use the hosepipe

It's true ... they can be quite heavy. I've got strong arms though (I think most of us horsey gals have strong arms) and I look upon that and the carrying of a watering can as exercise!
