I have this Geranium, but have unfortunately lost its label, and I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called. It grows in a mound, and is no more than about 6 inches or so tall. Any ideas?

Thats a lovely little Geranium Bagpuss and is now on my wish list Glad you started this thread, I never used to be keen on them tbo but of late they have quite tickled my fancy ;D Have been really naughty and ordered a few from Crocus ...... Sanguineum Album, Ballerina and Pratense Midnight Reiter. I'm keen to get some low growing varieties for the edge of the border if anyone has any suggestions I love white too I've got a few in the garden and took some photos of them today. I've got the tall but small flowered dark one Phaeum, that has been chopped so no photo. Have 4 others but I'm not sure on the names of a couple of the others so would be good to find them out if anyone can help This one grows about 2ft plus and has quite a softer leave than most of the others, almost like velvety Have another bluey/purpley one too, can't find a photo of it atm. Not a clue on this one, grows about 8-10inches, small leaves. Could iit be the same as the one you have Bagpuss, dalmaticum ? This I know is Splish Splash, love it love it love it

Hi Chuckles, I cannot be certain, but I think your first photo may be Geranium magnificum, the second, Geranium cantabrigiense and no clue for the third. The second one is so easy to propagate. Just break off a non-flowering stem, and pot it up. It roots really easily. Crug Farm's website has photos of dozens of Geraniums, you may find your third one there.

Wee, does the easy-to-propagate apply to other Geraniums? I have a prolifically flowering Johnson's Blue which I'd love to multiply ... cheers ...

Many thanks all. I think you could be right Wee with Geranium cantabrigiense.
Chuckles - lovely pics. I think your second one does look very much like mine. The "splish splash" has been on my wish list for a little while. I also have "Mourning Queen". I would like more, but unfortunately the vine weevil have been rather partial to some in the past which I have lost, so I'm trying not to have too many. I did almost lose my Mourning Queen, but managed to save a small bit, which is now doing really well.

Think you would have to divide Johnson's Blue CC. You wouldn't have to wait for winter though. When the flowers go over, or the plant becomes very straggly, it is a good idea to cut it hard back, because you'll get a new flush of growth. If you wanted, you could divide the clump at the same time. Usually this is quite simple, because the clump does fall apart readily into individual plants. Just give it some TLC for a while. If anyone thinks I'm wrong about this, speak up, because I'm no expert. ;D Have just noticed, you knew the name of the last one Chuckles.

I've been tempted to get Splish Splash for a while now but I've no idea where I would put it - I just haven't got room I've had problems keeping Splish Splash going tbo, has anyone else ? I've bought several over the years and other than this one I have atm I've not been able to keep them. They are ok when I plant them but they just come back really weak the following year. There supposed to Geraniums thrive in most soils and in sun or dappled shade but the only way I've been able to keep Splish Splash going is by digging it up and potting them up until they get big enough again to plant out, which can take a year or two. The one in the garden atm has been in a couple of years now and is doing fine, semi shade and quite a dry area too.

My neighbour and I have had the same problem with 'Summer Skies' For the first couple of years, superb, then it just got poorer and poorer, till last year, when it got the elbow.

I bought a new one last year and was very impressed with the length of flowerring and spread in a short time ,however it only had one small shoot this year which I've potted up. wonder if it flowered itself to death. it's the first gernium I've had a problem with they'r usually easy to grow

I think sometimes they are bred to within an inch of their life . It would put me off buying new varieties, especially when there are so many 'old reliables' out there.
