This grass has installed itself into one of my containers. I thought it was some forgotten bulbs til it came out with these lovely heads I've no idea what it's called and cannot find it in my plant book. It's about 18in high and quite wide. What is it please? I really like it and am going to let it stay

I have no idea, but it is very pretty. Do you think it maybe came from bird seed?

It does look like one of the millets.

It looks like Dog's Tail Fescue to me but I am far from an expert! ;D

It looks like a Carex, possibly pendula - very attractive but can be a thug. I like it though, and have one by my pond.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll google them and check them out It wouldn't have come from bird-seed Wee, I don't feed birds in the garden cos of the cats PS - it's not Dogs tail Fescue, or any millet that i can find, and Carex Pendula came close but the tails aren't long enough

The flowers hang down like Carex pendula, but these are too green and fluffy. Compared to mine anyway.

Looks like a young 'barley' to me

That's more than likely Tig. Even though NO doesn't feed the birds, one may have dropped a seed while flying over.

Looks like a young 'barley' to me There's no spikey "awns" on it Tig, which I always associate with Barley, just short fluffy hairs I was certain I would find it by googling "Lambs tail Grass", cos that's what I think they look like, but no luck so far
