At least it beat a dutch program where some clever clog was planting Gaura in a big planter on a roof terrace. And he meant it defenitely to be for this time of year He also planted white Geranium Phaeum in flower, how they managed that.... You won't catch GW doing that kind of interesting autumn/winter planting schemes.

Finally just managed to watch it. I agree about the lateness of the Halloween theme! Perhaps using it as a marker for colder nights ahead and some seasonal putting gardens to bed would have been better.
I like roasting pumpkin seeds but he didn't make it clear that they had Worcestershire sauce on them before cooking and neither did Alys make it clear that you are supposed to fill in around the plants she was so happily thrusting in. The chili drying was good too.
Now I don't mean to offend anyone but I have one huge gripe. It has nothing to do with accents, regional variations or anything, I have a good Dorset accent after all. What has happened to plain old English Grammar? It's not 'me' it's 'my' and next week will be Joe, Carole, Alys and I not Me first! Put it down to being involved in children's education for too long and I know I can spell wrong sometimes too but television presenters should have a little more pride.
Again, I am hoping over the winter break Toby will have a proper chance to gather his thoughts and bring the show back up to standard. He has promise, but also a long way to go.

Why can people not get the difference between I and Me. You wouldn't say "next week it will be I" so why should it be "next week it will be Carol and I". Haven't watched the programme yet so no comment about the content

Dutchy - GW is on the BBC so is paid for by licence fees. Any programmes on commercial tv are paid for by advertising

Dutchy I have just noticed --you mentioned loads of Tree Stumps--Now If you only lived nearer --
We have a 'Country Park' near here so I might just have a (drive) wander round and see if they have any going spare! The only problem would be getting the 'inside' bit out of the stump.
On second thoughts I dont think I will bother!
There wasn't much on Friday's programme that really interested me--making Pumpkin's for Halloween was a bit late (at 8.30pm on Halloween) I couldn't manage that in the dark.
As for Alys plonking plants on the soil instead of in the soil--well-- Lets see what the last week in the series brings-

Oh well - I watched it - I suppose I will have to view the website to find out more about taking hardwood cuttings, or I could just read Andys advice on here. Or making a cold frame - I think that is also covered on here The treatment of rust on leeks was interesting - using petroleum jelly - I just tend to cut the leaves off if I spot any. Mulching the ginger in the border - I have one in a pot - made a note to put the grit on before the extra 2-3" of compost is added, if I plant it out .. Good to hear that we have a few more recorded programmes covering some specifics from Carol and Joe And gardener of the decade in December ;D x Tig

I thought the bit with the anti rust petroleum jelly was a great tip. Lots of rust at MssK last year but the wood ash got things improved I think. Not having to make everything "bald", as this gives frost a bigger chance, seems like a good plan.
I am looking forward to Glebe cottage next week. I hope that will be an hour long ;D

I fear that the Carol and Joe "specials" are just clips cobbled together from previous GW programmes. That has been what has happened in the past - I hope I'm wrong!!

I do still watch GW but I do feel that it is lacking something these days, just can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is.

Depth, information, knowledge, continuity, commitment......
Anyone got any more?? It just seems to skim over and lightly touch a subject that deserves more. I do honestly think that it's the production team that has a lot to answer for, not the presenters all the time.

It is a programme where Chris Beardshaw and a young blonde girly naturalist change people's gardens to make them more wildlife friendly - or at least that's how I understand it

Oh, I forgot - they do it whilst not compromising design ie. they don't just say, have a pond, log pile and meadow. It sounds interesting
