A lot of my sweet pea stems are bent and twisted, so no good for cut flowers. Can anybody tell me why. (Thought you might be able to FB.)

some times its the little thingies that hold the peas to the climber, get wrapped around the flower next to it, ;D

I think Barbara is right, the little climbing things, think they are called tendrils, wrap themselves around the flower stalk, and pulls it down, bending it,

i believe the professional growers trim off any that arent wrapped round a support, to stop this happening, i just nick off the ones i see wrapped round another flower.

On GW Alys said pinch off the tendrels and the plant will put more energy into flowers. You'll need to definately tie them up then if you take away thier natural support system, but if it means more flowers I reckon it's a good idea. Mine got done yesterday

I took mine off too Chuckles. Barbara, they 'nip' off really easily, it is not as much of a chore as you might think.

Well nearly all of them As Wee said they are easy to nip off but be careful and watch what they are attached to, or you could break something off some I just nipped and left some I removed totally.

If you nip off the tendrils - why don't the sweet peas fall off the trellis
