well, actually I just want to as there is nothing I really need at the minute. I assume that if I buy something little that would be fine.... Could get some pretties as I have a couple of empty pots and I am sure that it is illegal to have empty pots.... Wonder if MrJ would go for that one Will be spending the weekend digging up a weed patch ready for the girls decking instead tho - although the exercise has to be worth it!! My nan needs to go to the nursery tho so maybe something will accidentally fall in my basket when I take her next week. That way I do the hard work and get something new! Does anyone else get this "need" ?? Jardack

Section 25 (1) A (2) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act states that - "any empty pot residing in a private garden must be planted forthwith with some pretties. The responsibility for this lies with the resident. The penalty for non compliance is in Section 25 (2) b." I won't quote that section in case it frightens you Jardack. Just get some pretties in those pots pronto!!

It's a very very long time since I actually NEEDED a plant, Jardack, but that doesn't stop me buying them ;D Though...................I suppose as I have an addiction, something awful might happen if I didn't buy plants. Better not risk it.

Don't go to a quality GC, visit one of the superstores who have no idea how to look after plants!! Theirs are all malnourished, dehydrated orphans in need of tlc, every respectable gardener has a duty to rehome a few x Tig

It is a complete dereliction of duty if you see a plant looking lonely and you do not rescue it and give it a loving home. This is especially true if you knowingly have empty pots and there are homeless plants needing accomodation - it's practically an act of Parliament I have to put my buying on hold for a couple of months, but I am already planning the bulbs I will buy then ( not to mention the late summer bargains!!). I think it is a compulsion!!

Oh Jardack of course I do! Unfortunately I have to keep telling myself that I just haven't got space. And then I start looking at how I can change things. I hope your "need" passes or is satisfied - one or the other! ;D

WeeT - better not stop buying incase you get this "need" like me Tig & Auricula - good idea, often get bargins there which with a little love grow beautifully Plocket - I am going to save something from being thrown away so that is a charitable act and therefore I have to do it! Glad to hear that you are an upright, honest citizen who wants to uphold the laws of this land - well regarding empty pots anyway
