I was so upset yesterday. I ordered £75.00 worth of grasses etc from J.Parkers last week and they came yesterday. They are tiny and the area I have to fill is huge in comparison. I only ordered because they seemed like bargains as they had great offers which was saving me loads of money. If I had gone to the GC it would have cost me a lot more but the plants would have been bigger. Am I over reacting? Will these plants grow rapidly? (Please someone tell me they will ) CJ

Perhaps I will. My OH says I am behaving like a child, and says what do you expect?? I asked him if he would rather have given me rather more money to by 30 grasses at £5.99 and up from the GC. He said COMPLAIN.

Grasses do grow quickly though. They should be at pretty much their full size by this time next year.

Oh dear, if only I'd known you were going to order from Parkers. They are great for any sort of bulb, but anything else should be given a body swerve. However, really the size doesn't matter, if they look healthy enough, they will grow away fine. As you say, grasses are expensive to buy in the GC. You could write to them saying that you are rather disappointed, but that you will plant them and see if they perform well. If in a while they die or just sit in the ground doing nothing, you can send a formal complaint. Don't let this put you off buying bulbs from them, I have not had a dud in over 20 years. But I ordered plants once only.

Thanks. I will see how they go (grow) and keep you all posted. They did send me a very nice healthy looking Hibiscus free as a replacement for some free short stemmed lilies that were out of stock, so not all bad.

Quite a few of the grasses self-seed, so keep a look out when you're weeding. They are really easy to spot, and grow on well. Good luck, and let's know how they go.

I bought a large grass plant from my GC - dont think it was too expensive cos I dont really spend large amounts on plants - it grew very quickly but only from July onwards - it dies down in the winter - but it has re seeded itself and appears in many different parts of the garden
There may be a photo of it in JennyWrenn's Garden - it is behind all my daisies in front of my statue

Bought 50 Strawberry plants from them last year and what a sight they where when they arrived , they looked dead to me but I soaked them before planting and watered the bed. After a month to six weeks there was nothing growing so I complained to Parkers, talked to a girl who sounded fed up and couldnt care less, also sent them an e-mail, a week later 25 healthier plants arrived which where soaked then planted and I got some cracking fruit off those, I complained that I had bought 50 and they had only sent me 25 but I never got anything or heard anything from them. This year you cant see the bed for plants and they are a later sort so they are just starting to fruit up which is great has the other ones will be just finishing when they are ready. I will never buy any plants from them again but will get bulbs from them.
