I am going to put a wooden planter between mine and my neighbours bay windows at the front of the house. The front of the house get sun all morning, by which time it moves to the back (back garden faces west).
One plant I would really love to plant in the planter (which will be made from wood and lined with plastic, so depth hasn't been finally determined yet) is a rose. I would really like a nice zingy orange or something quite bright (the bricks of my house are a pale yellowy colour) and also one that smells too. I would like it to preferrably be a shrub or climber (but not a rampant rambler!!) as well. (I don't want too much do I !!! ;D)
Can anyone suggest one that might be happy in a container?
Many thanks.

Need to have a think on that one. Off the top of my head I can't think of any roses that do too well in containers, aside from the patio variety which is not what you're thinking of. Found this link for you which may be of use; www.rhs.org.uk/Advice/profiles1003/container_rose.asp

Thanks DG - that's a really useful link. I have printed it out and will have a good read of that.
Beanie that rose is absolutely beautiful - I have to say those particular type of flowers have to be one of my favourites.

Hi Bagpuss - well this is only my opinion but first of all make sure that your "tub" is as deep as you can, or deep and wide if you understand what I mean. There are so many roses that you could consider, and I hope that there are other ideas, but for me there is only one. Westerland - this is a pic of mine Westerland from Kordes - is a large bush - robust, vigorous has such a range of colours...golden, orange, yellow copper, salmon etc, a lovely soft scent and can take wind, rain and most things that the weather can throw at it. It grows to a couple of meters but can be let higher or shorter. As you can see Bagpuss , I love this rose.... Sue
