I think the lure of many pests and diseases are what put people off. I quite like them and this year, i've seen some gorgeous upright compact dark leaved nasturtiums in a window box. They were only about 8" high and were covered in scarlet flowers....i'm going to try some of those next year. Lovely pics DG

Gorgeous DG (love the stripey one), and very clean looking How do you keep the cabbage-white beasties off them? As Andy said, it's the number of things that want to eat them (and move on to other things when there's nothing left!) that puts me off

DG, they are gorgeous! I usually avoid nasturtiums cos of pests but I have planted some dark leaved scarlet ones to compliment (I hope) some Thunbergia Salmon shades I am trying for the first time. Both plants are in bud so I havent found out if the combination works yet.

I didn't know that Nasturtiums got a bad press They grow well up here, and don't get swarmed upon by the nasties. Those are gorgeous DG..............(just like your latest mugshot ;D)

I grow some of them every year as they are so quick to fill a space

Mine are up and I hope to get them up the tripods to replace the Peas. Maybe it is the lice that love Nasturtiums but one can't possibly blame the plant for that can one? I like them and they are eddible too, nice peppery taste. And also a good bit of colour in the salad.

Smashing pictures of really healthy plants DG I do like nasturtiums but I've planted so much in front of mine this year they're not coming on at all well.

I like them, and your photos are lovely DG So what if they get a bit of 'pest' damage - so do a lot of other things in my garden! And like Dutchy says they go nice in a salad, my Grandkids have to be warned that they can only eat flowers if I put them on the plate though!! x Tig

I always thought nasturtiums grew and flowered better if grown on poor, undernourished soil--or is this just a myth?

Just a couple more pics... Biggles - you are correct, these flowers pictured where grown from seeds that I stuck into the soil and just left. Don't feed them, they thrive on neglect which is why I love them so much. Just thought I'd post this as well to show the difference they can make in a difficult border. Before; After
