In march I bought a Magnolia Stellata and have kept it in a large pot. It's grown quite a lot and there are a few branches lower down that I'd like to prune out, just to open the bottom up a bit. Now me being me I see an opportunity here Some of the bits that I'll be removing would be classed as hardwood and there are a few softwood too. So, has anyone done cuttings from a Magnolia before. I could just do them but am getting short on space and if it's not a goer then I'll not bother Help please

Chuckles I had a google According to Plants for a future - "Cuttings of half-ripe wood, early summer in a frame" www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Magnolia+stellata(you will probably have to add stellata after magnolia on the search as these links are always a bit iffy!) Most sites say layering is the best method of propagation x Tig

Hey thanks Tig, we'll see what we can do then If it was in the ground I might have had a go at layering a couple of the lower bits. Still be interested to find out if anyone else has tried cuttings from one though Like that site too
