Hi all, Has anyone got ant times on growing this plant ?? I have conflicting advice of the various web sites so just wondered if anyone has had any experiance.
I had them in damp spot that gets a bit of sun in the morning but they didnt do very well. Hardly grew at all so i dug them up and put them in pot. They have grown more but still no flowers.
Whats best for them ?
Regards G

I've got "Rubra" MrG and it is in full sun for the simple reason I haven't any shade in my back garden and only a tiny bit at the front. The only thing that I do is to make sure it gets a little more water and it seems to be very happy.

I've got a few astrantias in my garden and they get varying amounts of sun, and are planted in clay soil. They are watered fairly regularly, along with the rest of the garden but I don't keep them damp. I'm not sure what else to suggest other than keep trying Mr G

Hi Mr G
Not sure how much I can help, but I do have an Astrantia but not Rubra. I have mine in shade, and after about 3 years, it has finally flowered this year.

It looks like the sun thing maybe the problem then. I was thinking of putting it in my damp border again now its going to get more sun since the tree has been taken away. How tall does this little chap grow ? Regards G

I've never had 'Rubra' but my ordinary Astrantias grow really well. They are mostly in sun, but we always have plenty of rain up here, so dryness at the roots is never a problem. Nor is blistering sun

I haven't got one at the moment, left it at my last house where it (Major not Rubra) seemed to be happiest in a shady damp spot

Mr Grinch, I'm not sure of the name of mine but it is a burgundy colour, my soil is clay but I've added enhancers over the years. It gets the sun until around 2 pm. I have a few growing in the ground, I divide them in autumn and the other one I've successfully grown in a pot this year, it was one of last autumn's divisions. sorry these pics are blurred, just popped out into the rain to take them.
