Hi I've been advised that because of the ankle I hurt last year (which still gives me pain after 8½ months btw ) Imight help myself if I take Glucosamine Sulphate tablets. Just wondering if anyone has taken it and if so, what for and did it help ? Mrs FA has also been advised to take Starflower oil (in capsule form) but it's quite expensive. Anyone had this and did it work ? Any other supplements anyone would recommend ? Thanks FA x

I have known folk who take Glocosamine, and they say it is wonderful. And I think my friend used to take Starflower oil because she felt it did her some good. Is it for woman-y stuff FA?

I have taken glucosamine sulphate tablets in the past year but for only one month, to see if it would impact on a hip problem I seem to have from time to time. There was no tangible improvement during this time so I stopped taking them.
The OH of a former colleague takes them on a regular basis, and he says that they do work, although I am very sceptical about such things.
Given that my problem is more than likely early onset arthritis I think it would do me more good if I knocked off the half a grapefruit at breakfast.... and maybe considered losing weight / getting some exercise. ;D

I take glucosamine for joint problems that I have in my right hand - I am convinced the stiffness was due to lots of horse riding in freezing cold weather (when your fingers just seem to freeze into position!) as my fingers would just set solid over night. Since taking glucosamine the pain and stiffness have gone. I have tried starflower oil in the past too but it didn't make any difference to me and it was expensive so I gave up on that.

I know people who swear by Glucosamine (with Condroitin whatever that is) and also Cod Liver Oil capsules for stiff joints. Of course fish oil is supposed to good for you in lots of ways Another friend reckons Garlic Oil capsules ease his creaking joints and totally poo-poos the Glucosamine!

Starflower oil (borage oil) is an anti inflamatory. Andy are you having any pain with the ankle. I have what I think is spinal arthritis & at times is painful & I rub emu oil on & get almost instant relief. It's good for muscles & joints.

My parents have the glucosamine and they seem to think it helps. They get theirs from ZipVit. Much cheaper than the shops etc

Well I'm going to give the Glucosamine a try and have ordered some online. They were much cheaper than in Boots or Superdrug so I'll have a go and see what happens.
I do still get pain in my ankle GJ. I've kinda learned to live with it and it doesn't really affect my day-to-day life but I couldn't run a marathon at the moment......... ;D I've never heard of emu oil but I'll keep it in mind, thanks.

I broke my ankle some years ago, it is fine most of the time, but in Winter or damp weather it used to be very painful, a kind of gnawing annoying pain. I swear by cod liver oil & have for years worn a magnetic bracelet. I get very little pain now.
I am a big fan of echinacea & have not had a cold/ flu or infection for some time. I take those effervescent ones once a day for 2 weeks & then none for 2 weeks & repeat.
OH has a lot of aches & pains in may joints, he is a big fan of heat rubs & an infra red lamp on the affected area.
Was in Boots topping up today, never saw any emu oil though!

Health food shops do emu oil or you can get it on the web. The one I have also has lavender oil in it which is also anti-inflamatory. My daughter asked if it came from emu's. Of course not I said, does dog oil come from dogs. It actually comes from the emu's saddle. It's rendered down. Did I mention it's anti-aging Janet.
