As I'm sure you all know the presidential candidate Barack Obama is visiting our green and pleasant land in an attempt to endear himself to the great British public . It must be a bit of a bore meeting Gordon Brown so I propose that TV gardener Brian Harvey ( famous for fronting boyband East 17 and running over his own head) take him on a whistle stop tour of Hampstead Heath. What does everyone think??

Blimey! Warrior Spirit Mycowaz!
I'm delighted to see that Baz Obama recognises the importance of TV gardening- and great pop music- and is well advised to seek out Brian Harvey- who, let us not forget, ran over his own head- and if Harvey is taking Obama round London's most cultural high spots then I think thats very good news for this country.
What might be more useful though, would be for Obama to stay over at Brians tonight- Harvey has a massive teloscope in his loft extension and has a wonderful knowledge of our solar system and behind. His views might be able to shape Obama's views on US expansionism into Outer Space- this could prove a vital point in our relatios with other species and ultimately has a huge impact on the future direction of humanity.
In Brian Harvey, I think we, our children and our children's children, are all in very safe hands indeed. If we can't have Captain Kirk leading us into space then I want Brian Harvey at the wheel!

Derek, I completely agree....and lets not forget that Brian is at this moment seeking RHS funding for a manned mission into space looking at the the effects of practicing horticulture in zero gravity. This mission could be extended to explore the furthest reaches of the galaxy acting as ambassador of the Earth when making first contact with new and exciting civilisations.
BRIAN HARVEY.......SPACE GARDENER, TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE!

Hi you two, where have you been, and where is the other one? I reckon if you lot go on about Brian Harvey for much longer, we might start to think it might be a good idea to have him present Gardener's World. To be honest, I think I might find him a good deal more interesting than some who are on the shortlist. They'd have to keep him away from the lawnmower though, unless he was needing a haircut, obviously. I see that Obama has been reassuring Gordon Brown about his lack of popularity. Must have been a wonderfully rousing peptalk. Sorry, I've gone off topic.

Hi wee Dorcas...long time no chat.
'the other one' is currently on a sabatical at 'Monkey Mountain' in Southern Germany he is living as one of the apes in a study of human-monkey interaction. Unfortunately he has intergrated a little to well and has taken on many of their charactersitics which could make it difficult for him to reintergrate into society. Its quite a sad tale really....anyway how's you? Pulled any young posters lately??

Sadly the only pulling I have done of late is weeds out of the border. Pity about GM.....I can imagine some of the habits he has picked up, though some of them could be handy, I believe head lice are on the increase again. ;D

Well, that is good news Mycotal. I for one would welcome Baz with open arms although the 'delights' of Hampstead Heath might leave him wondering about some of our 'cultural highlights' BTW, weren't they what Brian had put in his hair at his local unisex salon just before he ran over his head? I read somewhere that they bestowed something of the 'new romantic' look and that he was so taken with them that he forgot to look where he was going, hence the little accident. Sticking with the gardening theme though, aren't Brian and Baz lovers of mesembryanthemums?

Hey Mycowaz
did you hear Harvey on Radio 4 yesterday in a discussion with George Monbiot? Monbiot was giving his line about how it didn't matter if we got a Tory government- because new labour were more rightwing anyway. Harvey said that while he agreed that new labour had been a disappointment for the working class and had in many ways destroyed hope in parliamentary democracy and the two party system, he feared the impact of the oncoming recession- and in partiicular its impact on the horticultural trade- than whatever party got in.
He made an interesting point that while there are more UK holidays, many gardens open to the public do not have facilities for young families- he also said that in times of recession, the first thing to go would be the gardener- and he predicted lean times for landscapers and garden centres.
It seems the bubble may be about to burst! What do you think? Is Brian right?
Rock on

Umm! interesting point Brian makes, I think a lot depends on what part of the country you live in. The London....Surrey area I think gardeners are safe as houses....(maybe a poor analogy) the further north you go it might get a little tricky. I think that garden centres will certainly suffer and probably your average 'jobbing' gardener. However professionally trained horticulturist in established gardens will be okay....I hope!!
Have you heard Brian's new ditty he has just released on the subject of our parliamentary representative's? Its called...'Send the all to the Moon'...maybe this should be the new theme for Gardeners World?? at least if we have a recession and lose our jobs we can watch plenty of great gardening TV...
But who should replace Monty...any thoughts peeps??

Its fascinating that you should ask Mycowaz- I was just ponderinmg that very thorny issue myself- I wonder if Baz Obama spoke to Brian about it? You know how the USA likes to put its own people in places of power and authority!!!
One person that I'm pretty sure won't be getting the GW gig is Osama Bin laden. While I'm still unsure just what exactly it is that you have to do to land a job with the BBC, I'm pretty sure that mastrerminding terrorist attacks accross the world and urging global revolt against western values is NOT the right thing to put oin your CV- just in case you were thinking of applying.
Can any of you think of anybody less suitable to present GW than Bin Laden? Its over to you

I wonder if that did come up in discussions....I sure that Baz has his own ideas about who should take over from MD.
He may even be able to use his influence to get Brian in to the top job....or maybe come up with a deal to offer Osama the job in return for not trying to bring down Western civilisation.
How about.....the talking Vulture?

Another one I'd not like to see presenting is that Serbian Boufont encrusted hate gimp Radovan Karodich. With the popularity of mysticism and waffle- like moon gardening for example- at fever pitch at the moment (interest in mysticiam and superstitious gobbledeegook always hits a high when the doo doo hits the fan) and Karodich a deft exponent of the noble art of cobblers and alternative medicine, I'd hate to see some trendy media git from Farrington putting the snake oil selling fascist forward to present GW.
However, I truly don't believ it is likely and I believ that he is only slightly more likely to get the gig than Bin laden because he's never messed with the americans- and they call the tune.
The hunt continues

haven't these people ever heard of science???
I bet even Osama and Radovan with their stupid beliefs don't believe in 'moon gardening'!!

I don't know if they do or if they don't Mycowaz. Bin Laden might find belief in the influence of the moon a bit "infidel" and quite possible punishable by stoning to death. Karodich on the other hand would probasbly say anything to get out of the trouble he's in- I mean, facing war crimes allegations at the Hague isn't really going to be a barrel full of laughs for the ethnic cleansing nut-case.
However, while Karodich may say he believes in moon gardening, I believ that the Serbs are fundamentally logical- just a bit too much like the People of Kricket from the Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy to really live in peace and harmony with their neighbours. As such, I do not believe that my new least favourite Tramp does believe in Moon gardening.

I would very much like to see any of my friends from the beeb presenting GW Mycowaz. I'd also like to see four fat men sat on a wall with gigantic papermache heads depicting Beatrix Potter characters such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck. And I'd like them to present it in the styleof a rock opera.
However, the BBC never listens to me.

I haven't read it, but I am aware of it. I think its pretty unlikely that I'll read it. From what I saw, it appeared to be a unique and gifted witty and eloquent prose, worthy of only the highest praise, with an all encompassing friendly response to all comers and goers and not a hint of the narcissistic aggressive/defensive paranoid reactionary non-proportional insanity that typifies most blogs
