Hi All
I have been given some fresh herrings, which I have put in the freezer for the moment.
Does anyone have any recipe ideas. I would quite like to perhaps try doing something with them on the BBQ.
I'm not a particularly fussy eater, so any ideas very welcome.
Many thanks.

The first dish I cooked at school was for Herring - we had to gut them too and chop off their heads - they were rolled in breadcrumbs and think fried
I have all my school books so will look it out later and post it
They are supposed to be so so good for you and not all supermarkets sell them - in short supply they say whenever I ask

Here it is
Assuming herring has been scaled, head and tail cut off and insides taken out ;D Ingredients 2 herrings 1 tabs oats 4 oz cooking fat/oil
Roll them in the oats and fry 5 mins each side until golden brown
So simple, so nourishing ;D

So rare!! My OH's fav fish. I saw some the other day on the slab but they just didn't look, well, fresh I guess. The sort of fish to buy straight off the boat, in Cornwall, on a sunny afternoon with a beach fire going.......
