i put a pic on a web site the other day. pic didn't appear but a warning about bandwidth theft did. I've never had a problem with posting pics or helpful articles before I went back into the site that I got the pic from and read the small print and it said that i was allowed to copy parts as long as it was for private or non comercial use. this has got me worried as to whether to copy anything in future. can anyone give me any pointers as to how to avoid this in the future.

Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights legislation is quite a complex area Beanie, I often look for pictures which are quoted as 'free' to use in a non-commercial capacity, and I think that provided you are not using material and claiming it is your own, not defacing or changing it to fit your own purposes most people would not object, but you may still be breaking the law!! It is like all law - complicated x Tig

I agree totally with Tig - it is very complicated.
In my experience, if you are not allowed to c/p photos from somewhere , they make sure you can't. Obviously there are ways but I respect their decision.
Hot-linking isn't appreciated too much unless specifically allowed.
There are thankfully still a lot of sites where they do not mind you c/p photo's.

tig, rosefriend thanks for the reply, as I said it's never happened before while I've been posting. the odd site or two I've been into have a block on , the pics won't download so I log off, I wouldn't dream of doing it by any other method. Too much of a coward I don't like trouble.I have the actual plant that I posted in my own garden but was too lazy to go out and take the pic. (also it had too many slug holes in it) vanity is an awful thing isn't it ;D

Clip Art used to have a block on nearly all the pix you could view - now that seems to have been lifted and you can copy and paste everything that is on your pc

I'm still trying to find a site that I used for wallpaper. It was an American gallery I think , I could use any painting for wallpaper but they had a block to stop you downloading to print them off which is fair enough. I forgot to save my favourites when we bought the new computer

The easiest way to find suitable desktop wallpaper images is to first find out the screen resolution of your PC. Just right click anywhere on a blank area of your desktop and then select the Settings tab. The resolution will be displayed at the bottom left of the Settings window. A common one would be 1024x768 (measured in pixels). Next go onto Google and select the image search tab and just type in the resolution of your screen. So if yours is 1024x768 just type that. If you want a 1024x768 landscape add the word landscape in quotes i.e."landscape" or put a plus sign in front of it i.e. +landscape. Likewise with any other variation you might want. I have just run that self same search on Google which has produced 20 million results!.... images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=1024x768&btnG=SearchWhen you find one you like, left click to select (from Google) and then right click on the image itself and select 'Save Picture As' and save it to 'My Pictures'. Then all you need do is apply the settings from your desktop by right clicking a blank area as before, selecting the Desktop tab, and scroll through the images in the box marked 'Background'. Click on the one you want and toggle the Position to Stretch and click ok and Bob's your Uncle!
