.............and probably could have had if I'd treated myself a bit more.
As I've mentioned I'll be judging cut flowers at a show soon. Entries in the Handicraft section have slumped in recent years, so I am busy knitting and sewing for it. Nothing finished yet, but it will be full steam ahead now. BUT it got me thinking about something I always wanted. A case with a full set of knitting needles, all brand new and matching. I have yearned for these since I was in my twenties. And they are not even that expensive. It is just that I have every size already, so it would be an unnecessary indulgence. Something else on the yearn list is a wicker picnic basket with china crockery and metal cutlery and gingham napery. But they ARE expensive, and I would probably get hardly any use out of it. Anyone else denied themselves things that aren't out of the question financially?

I've got a massive big box of knitting needles - they go back to my Grandma's days - cant bring myself to throw them out And the picnic basket - you may get one in a charity shop I always wanted as a ickle girl a scooter - a foot push along one not petrol driven as I was only 8 at the time ;D - never got one - even now when I see one just thrown on the ground and left by some child I want to pick it up and go scooting off

If I want and need something I buy it (and boy do I need lots of shoes, boots and sandals ;D) If I want something and it is reduced (even though I may not need it ) I buy it If I want something and it is more than £10 I have to rationalise, how much I want it, how much use I will get out of it, how long it will last, and whether I will need to purchase a replacement if it breaks - then if I can convince myself it is a 'must have' and provided that the funds are available and nothing more pressing needs paying for I buy it. Big things I save up for, then sometimes when I have enough I decide I didn't really want it after all - currently saving up for a garden building of some sort, not sure whether I need a shed, greenhouse or summerhouse Or maybe I don't need any of them x Tig

I got a bone china dinner/tea service before I was married even. Our biggest department store in Glasgow always had a really good January Sale when they sold Wedgewood which were slight seconds, and I got one of them. Well, my Mum bought it. I have used it a few times, but it is far too twee for the kind of entertaining I would do. But if I didn't have it, I'd certainly want one too. I would have liked a scooter too, but now my little Grandson and I have races, him on his tricycle and me on his scooter. It is great fun, and you should treat yourself Jenny. Even a big strapping middle-aged bloke who lives a couple of houses down had a go on it the other day.

When I was ickle I too yearned for a scooter, so my Dad made me one,...with his own hands,....a wooden one..... I am ashamed now of how ungrateful I was , but I wanted one like the other kids had! A shiny red and yellow metal one with rubber tyres and "Triang" painted on it! I know now that the wooden one was worth far more (like Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colours) but when you're a kid you don't think like that (I didn't anyway)

I always had masses of dresses, because my Mother sewed them for me. They were always very pretty, apart from the fact that they all had puff sleeves, and I always had a woollen vest on underneath with sleeves that were longer. It did rather spoil the effect. Anyway, at the time, I would have swapped every one for a dress out of a shop. Mum didn't know that thankfully. Back to scooters. Every home should have one whether there are children or not. ;D And my wee one cannot get near the old-fashioned spinning top he has, you know, the metal ones that make the humming noise?

I always wanted a hoop with a stick to bowl it along with! It was always depicted in childrens' books as the most enormous fun , but I cannot for the life of me see why!

I've always wondered why my boys could walk miles with my parents but looked in horror or moaned constantly if they had to walk anywhere with me. I always wanted a pair of roller skates when I was little but my mum wouldn't let me - she said I made too much fuss when I hurt myself. I noticed in-line skates at a friend's house recently and wondered if they'd fit........ ;D

Well, I suggest we all have a go at the things we've missed out on. A rather more expensive item I'd like, and haven't given up hope on yet is a big traditional rocking horse, and a doll's house and ..........................
Come on folks, share your yearnings here. So far, we aren't being very greedy, are we? A joke in our house is that when I was a child, I always wanted Mum to buy 'Wagon Wheels' which were HUGE in those days. But she refused, said they were made from cheap chocolate. I finally bought some recently. Yeugh !!!!

I always wanted a traditional rocking horse (before I moved on to wanting a real pony) and it was one of the first things I bought my boys. It doesn't get used any more so I am keeping it for any grandchildren there may be...and it is taking up a lot of space!

Ok! I have always wanted a whopping great diamond solitaire ring. My first engagement ring was a small solitaire, much prized/loved and I have it yet. But it is now way too small for my fingers (boy was I thin then). So, I started to earn a bit more money and I saved up and got to a point where I thought I'd look. Of course, prices had risen and I hadn't kept abreast of this, so those I liked were beyond what I had. Rather than wait and save a bit more I was too impatient and I bought a diamond cluster. It is a lovely ring but ....... it's not a solitaire. So, guess what? A diamond solitaire is back on my wish list

Isn't it strange how different we are?

Can't say I have because money burns a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE hole in my pocket/bank account and therefore must be gotten rid of ASAP ;D Me to April money and me dont stay together very long im afraid. ;D I was quite good recently on the "operation fence" fund but then had to do some decorating, buy car parts and buy some other stuff and then treated myself a little and now I have about £40 in the bank LOL Whoops.... Still, got our back pay today and some overtime I'd forgotten about and I've nothing else to buy atm so "operation fence" is up and running again. But Game have BOGOF on some games we want so it might all go boobs up again. And we've got some friends coming to stay this weekend and I need to buy some more DiSaronno to go with my coke ;D

This is such a lovely thread! I've been thinking long and hard, and have come to the conclusion that I'm a spoiled brat. Not that I've got everything, but if I want something (little) I get it. More often than not though it's something for LP though But there is something I would LOVE to have one day, and it's totally frivolous: I would absolutely love to have a gold Pandora bracelet. Unfortunately I have had to accept that I will never have one because they are SOOOOOO expensive and we have more important things to spend the money on!
