These are my Pineapple Lillies. First time I have grown them-- They seem to attract the flies but not the Bees.

They are lovely Bigs and really healthy looking. I love the white ones and must put them on my wish list. I have 2 pots of Pineapple Lillies the 2 coloured one which I can't recall the name of right now

These were bought at the Pound shop- (5 in a Pkt) I am on the look-out for coloured ones and have Googled a few sites but cant find any listed. I wonder if Tig might find a Site for us. I know Susie Snowdrop got some but I dont know where--I must find out--

I really like Pineapple lillies. I had some which died off, but I managed to collect some seed before they did.
After about a year, they started to produce leaves, which they done again this year (for about the third time) but they have never produced flowers.
Am I doing something wrong Bigs?

I'm no expert on bulbs Bagpuss but I would have thought it will take them a few years to mature enough to flower. Leave them outside until the weather really starts to chill then put them somewhere cool and dry but frost-free (I put mine in our garage). Ignore them other than an occasional splash of water then bring them out in the spring as usual and bung them in a sunny spot. Hopefully they'll flower for you next year. Keep at it Bagpuss

As I have never grown these before I was pleased Plocket replied with help for 'after care' I will take that advice and do as she has suggested.
Bagpuss-- I didn't really do anything special with them when I bought them except I planted them in a pocket of good compost & in a Part shady position. Mine only grew to about 12" in height- They seemed to grow at an angle (sloping!) but that could have been because they were struggling for light ;D The ones in the Container grew much better than those planted in the ground. At first they looked as though they were just growing enormous leaves and nothing else but after a few days the Lily appeared-- If I come across anymore (Bulbs) of them next year in the Pound Shop I will buy some more because for £1 for five we really have not much to lose--so if you would like me to look out and get you a packet of 5-- I will with pleasure --Just let me know--Bigs

I'm with Plocket on this Bagpuss, most bulbs grow from seed or bulbs from bublets will take anything from 2 if you are lucky to upto 5 years to flower depending on the plant. I'd love a white one and also the dark coloured one that I think Suparuthie has. Mine are kept in 2 pots and have flowered well again this year.

I've had some of mine in a pot for a few years now and they do well every year. Just treat them mean over winter! ;D

As usual Tig--you always manage to find very good Links to the various queries on this Board-- The Links-- explains Pineapple Lillies cutivation and growing conditions in detail--Thanks for finding them- Looks like I have found a bargain with my Pineapple Lillies and I dont have to wait 2 to 3 years for more--I will just 'look out' for them again in the Pound Shop--Bigs

I have just had a look on your garden thread re-eucomis seedlings they look as though they are ready to flower either this year or next--Mine looked like yours and I thought they were 'blind' but before I knew it I saw the flower appear- the leaves seemed to be out of proportion to the flower but were a pleasant surprise when they arrived. Tig-- I don't think I would have the patience to wait two to three years for a flower--when I can buy them so cheaply! I dont know whether I mentioned this but the ones in the container seemed to grow better than the ones in the ground-
