LOL Barbara you just go type in names to see if you can find people you know, then click add as friend.
I mainly block all the application requests because I've got everything I want to have on my profile already. Anything else I'll look for myself. Just make sure your privacy prefs are set so that people you don't know can't view your profile.

I also have an unused account. I've found that other ways of communicating are better and I'm not really into telling people what colour knickers I've put on today or have poo fights (don't ask!)

I find it a better way of keeping in touch with a lot of the people I know. It keeps people I don't see very often in my mind.

As long as your privacy prefs are set so that people who aren't your friends can't see your profile then that's the main thing. As you can imagine, you've got your full name, date of birth etc etc on there so it's best to have it set just to have those you know viewing it. I also don't have a photo of me on there, I use something that only people who know me now would recognise.
There are little applications you can add to your page such as scrabulous (online scrabble), my relatives where you can create your family tree online... loads are pretty cr*p and only suitable for teenagers or those with childish dispositions ;D

I joined at the suggestion of a friend and we can look at each other's holiday pics on there. But the rest of it is mostly cr*p in my (rather elderly) view. I might delete my account if I ever bother to go on there again!

i'm on facebook and i really like it.
i use it to keep contact with relatives abroad and people who i havent seen from my school years.i love looking at peoples photos.i don't add many of the applications as they are nonsense.some of them can be fun though.
it's another of those internet fads that will bore me very quickly but i find it easier to use than other social networks such as MYSPACE!!!
it's another bit of innocent timewasting. ooops should i be wasting time???
