Earlier this year I bought from B&Q 6 beautiful bronze leaved New Guinea Busy Liz, they have the most beautiful Deep Orange/Red flowers, does anyone know if I will be able to keep them through the winter in pots? I have made a very large Propatgtor tunnel in the large GH and I will be over Wintering all my Fuchsia and some other bits and bobs in it. I also have a couple of trailing white normal lizzies and was wondering if they would come through the Winter as well. Thanks for any help with this and sorry if I have put it in the wrong message thread. Carol.

I would certainly have a go Carolann but to be on the safe side I would also take some cuttings - Busy Lizzies roots so easily - I did a load last year and they have been magnificent this year.
I kept them in the spare bedroom until I could get them into one of the mini greenhouses in the Spring and then used fleece when there was a danger of frost.

How do you take cuttings RF? I mean where abouts should you cut? Do you then just stick them into pots? do you need rooting powder or any special type of compost? I always used to throw them away and start again the next year.....naughty me.

I always take more cuttings than I need as I put some in water and some in compost/sand and always lose some. I have never used rooting powder with them at all. Hope this helps Missy. and the second pic, I have taken off all the buds and cut onto a leaf joint which isn't so easy to see. I would then put that into a pot with a mixture of compost and sand or into water. RF

I have taken a dozen cuttings and have put them into a mixture of compost/sand........can I keep these in the mini GH now or do I have to bring them indoors?
I have also got a few in a jar of water.

ooo you've been busy......well done!!
Yes you can leave them in the mini GH - just remember that they cannot take any frost at all.
Have you got any fleece perhaps? If not perhaps you can take them in if there is a danger of it getting too cold?

I have made a bubblewrap cover to go over the GH cover when its frosty, is that good enough?

Yes I think so - if the UK suddenly gets minus 20 then I think you would have problems, otherwise it should be OK.
If you are really in doubt, take them in for the night - they can cope with the dark for a day or two even - just no frost.
