As more and more people decide to buy cameras and mobile phones capable of taking videos, we have decided to offer GWD members the possibility of posting their own short films, using Media Fire or Photobucket. This can be anything you wish - your garden, interesting finds, a scene, insects etc. but we'd suggest garden 'tours' offer the best prospect. Just to give you an idea of what we mean, OM, Chuckles and I have made short videos for you all to see. For those unfamiliar with Media Fire there is no viewing facility, a file has to be downloaded to your Desktop or a file of your choice and it does take a few minutes depending on the speed of your PC and ISP etc. Both formats that we have used can be opened with Microsoft or Quick Time/Real Player. There is a possibility that the videos may be a little blurry if opened on a full screen – resizing the viewing window to a smaller size would be helpful. After trial and error, we would feel that a limit of around 20MB/2-3 minutes is preferable, if making a film, just to limit upload and download times. However, the longer the video, the longer the upload/download and a High-Resolution film will obviously be even longer. We would also ask that videos that are uploaded be re-named for easy recognition i.e. RF’s Roses or something appropriate. When a film has been made and uploaded, then please post the link in an appropriate thread. Anyone wanting to upload a film themselves and use the GWD Media Account, please PM us for the Username and Password . You may well ask why we've chosen Media Fire - it is password protected for uploads, has unlimited storage, up to 100MB per file, unlimited files, unlimited downloads etc. We leave it entirely up to yourselves as to whether you use MediaFire or your own Photobucket account. Photobucket’s video facility is rather limited in capacity and all the movies we've seen there are of poorer quality on viewing. Should however, the MediaFire account be misused, the problem videos will be deleted and the password changed. This is purely for fun and will in no way take over from the exceptional pictures that are posted on the board. Here are the links to the videos that we have made. Well I would suggest that you download Quick Time or even Real Player SO - OM was using his phone camera so the format was different. Try downloading the video again - give me a shout if you still have problems.
Yes it is the same as seeing photo's for the first time - I suppose we imagine something else.

i have just spent 50 mins. downloading the player and OM's video, and trying to get it to play, its all there but it will not run,i can see the greenhouse and the watering can, i'm so frustrated i could cry, and i'm not well, 'cause i cricked my neck last night, and i had hardly any sleep, and its still killing me 12 pain killers later. so i guess ill never know what you sound like OM unless i come visit you.

Whilst not wishing to appear to contradict RF's sage advice, I find that OM's video plays best on my PC with Real Player, the free version of which may be downloaded from here.... uk.real.com/player/moreThis is also the player you will need to view BBC iPlayer media, so it as well to have it available.

OK i finally got it to play, i already have the real player for the bbc so how do you open it to play stuff like this You need to right click on the file Barbara, and then select Open with, and all being well Real Player should be one of the options offered. Failing that you can select choose program which then lets you pick from a longer list which again should include Real Player if you already have it on your PC.

I still do not have my own camera but after seeing your lovely videos I think that I could ask my son if I can borrow his for a day. I am not promising anything, but could you explain to me in simple terms Rosefriend, how exactly I make a film.
I don't have to say anything, do I?

Hi Pip, - no you don't have to say anything at all, if you don't want to - neither do you Amo, or anyone for that matter.
Generally speaking you will have to ask your son about the camera settings, if anyone is really stuck then if I had the camera name and number I could have a look as to how things work - in theory!!
If you choose to do a video in MediaFire, we can give you the Password. You will have to have you camera on the lowest setting and try to take a video that ranges up to 3 minutes with around 20MB. This is basically so that the download time isn't so long for people wanting to see the videos. MediaFire does have unlimited storage and files can also be uploaded up to 100MB.
You can also use Photobucket - I have also done that on a few occasions and uploaded the film which can be up to 100MB. The choice is yours. However PB only has 1GB space and we would prefer videos not to be deleted if they are part of your garden, the same as photo's. Videos played on PB are changed to flash format as well.
I would suggest that you ask you son to show you the settings and have a little trial run. If you have any specific questions, then let me know and I will do my best to help.

Chuckles's butterfly was brief and beautiful, RF's garden lush and left me wanting more, but I have to say, being the cat lover that I am, Lulufish made me giggle and I am in awe of OM's polytunnel and all the goodness therein.

This is a very good idea. I've downloaded the videos and have no problem with them. I am using Ubuntu OS with Flashplayer. I do have a problem with the BBC videos though.
