Hes so sweet we had one visit our garden recently.I would be sitting watching tv and around 9pm he would come toddling down the drive sqeeze through the gate and go searching round the back garden. I put a dish of dog food out for him and it was always gone in the morning. Then we had to rush out and pick the dish up before we let the dog out. But the hedgie isnt coming now i dot know if hes gone into hibernation or hes found newer pickings. We live in the country and on a quiet street so i wouldnt think hes been run over. They are very comical when they are walking.

Well done for getting it to come out in the day Rita - ours only appear at night. They can move very quickly when they want to

I loved the video of the Hedgehog Rita. I didn't think they were tame enough to come out during daylight hours. You could hear him/her snuffling and making a noise while eating! Just like me. PJ

Sounds like your hedgehogs are a completely different cup of tea from our racoons. Racoons are miserable, foul smelling, destructive pests. If anyone is interested in a trade let me know.

;D Sorry T no chance. Would not want to swap these blind bats for anything. Only minus about them is the amount of fleas they transport. Thanx Rita it's lovely.

What a brave hedgehog coming out in the daylight. The meal worms obviously made it worth his/her while! Discovered a racoon in our rubbish bin when we were on holiday in the States at Easter TT - it frightened me as they make a strange noise when they move - and they can move quite fast which I don't like!

They are very ingenious at getting into garbage containers. It's advisable not to put your garbage out to the curb overnight for early morning pickup. They're also very good at digging up your lawn to get at the white grub. There are quite a few of them around our neighbourhood. I keep my garbage containers/bags in the garage and make sure there is no way for them to get into the garage. There are also a few skunks around. One evening I forgot to close my garage door so it stayed open overnight. When I noticed it next morning I closed the door without checking inside. Later that day I went into the garage to get something or the other and met the garbage containers in a mess and a skunk in a corner partly under some bags. Wooooo. I slammed in a reverse gear and was out of that garage in a flash. With the help of a couple of neighbours - and a couple of the longest poles we could find we were able to get it out without any serious unpleasantness; if you get my drift.

Now, now suparuthie. Remember we have to encourage more trans-Atlantic trade to save the world economy. Skunks are OK as long as you don't upset them; at least not while you're standing close behind them. ;D

You can still keep 'em TT ;D I think Racoons are rather sweet though................. "Racoons" and "sweet" are 2 words that simply do not belong together. Trust me. If a family of them were to ever move in under your deck, or your garage, or into your attic (yes they can climb) you've really got a problem. Hedgehogs look sweet. Racoons. Not at all.

Well done for getting it to come out in the day Rita - ours only appear at night. They can move very quickly when they want to My very old book, "The Observer's Book of Wild Animals" says quote "On occasion, it may be seen abroad in full daylight, after a heavy summer downpour of rain has brought out the snails and slugs". BTW I'd forgotten that my new camera records sound, my old one didn't! LOL ;D
