I always buy seeds which say that the plants have long stems for cutting - but they are usually variable

I have found that the stems on the seeds from the "specialist growers" are much stronger and longer, some of them this year are about 12" long.

My first bunch of sweetpeas... There's not a very big range of colours but I only had 9 plants from my autumn sowing so this is not bad I suppose.

Yes I've picked the first of ours today (no photo though). Much later than usual but at least they seem to have recovered from their less than auspicious start.

They look great Jas,i think they are very nice colours Thank you FB - I didn't think I would be getting any sweetpeas at all this year so just a few through the summer will be great. I'm getting an allotment (I'm so excited i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif ) - I'm next on the list - then I'm going to have a long row of sweetpeas hopefully.

How long do sweet peas carry on flowering for?

Auricula, just been looking back at earlier posts and FB's sweet peas in full flower around 3rd week of May and mine around last week of May. Mine are still flowering and I reckon have at least another 2 to 3 weeks if I keep picking off the dead flowers. I sowed mine in October and kept them in the greenhouse over the winter. Here are some I picked this evening.

Mine cover a "structure" ( 3 pieces of wood like a goalpost ) with pea netting covering it.It is about 8ft long and 6ft high.At the moment it is covered in flowers ( which are cut daily) but if they finish flowering within the next month ( when I have several sets of visitors) it will just look tatty Any ideas ?? Can't remember what has happened in previous years, as last year I was housebound after my op and the year before I was in London looking after my Dad - perhaps plastic ones would fill the gap!! ;D ;D ;D

No,just sticks, well they are mini branches really, they are cut from a tree i have on my lawn, every 3 years,so they last for 3 sowings of SPs,they are about 8ft long, and about as thick,or a bit more than my thumb,i sharpen the ends, and push into the ground as far as i can, prob about 6-8ins,i put them each side of the row, about 6ins apart,so i need about 50 for my 12ft row
