Tree Aid - www.treeaid.org.uk/is a small charity which plants trees in poor communities in Africa - the trees provide people with things like food, fuel, medicines, and soap, both for their own families and to sell on and enable them to be self-sufficient. They are asking their supporters to give out leaflets to get them some more publicity - they are worried about losing support at the moment because people aren't feeling sufficiently well-off to give to charities. I don't see people to give leaflets to, so I said I'd post their website on some message boards instead. I called the thread Good Causes rather than Tree Aid, because I thought if anyone else supports any other small, not very well-known charities you could tell us about them too, especially if they are plant/garden related ones, or if they're important to you personally (maybe not the bigger ones which already get loads of publicity though, or the thread will just become a long list!).

I support The Brooke Hospital for Horses based in Egypt Their monthly newsletter breaks me down in floods - have to force myself to read it GF went to visit one year and became virtually hysterical - the cruelty of the poor donkeys that work in the Brick Kilns beggars belief - she was so brave to even go She took medicines and much needed animal drugs from the UK she collected from various vets etc

Be warned they ride the horses in the towns at great speed - the fear on their faces is dreadful to see - I could never go to Egypt

I hadn't heard of them - there seem to be so many charities working against cruelty to animals in one form or another Do they have a website? I realised that what I didn't say in my original post & should have done, is that the idea of the thread is that if anyone on the boards does have a few pounds they want to give to charity, to provide them with some ideas of charities to give to! I'm not very good at charity fundraising because I don't like people pressurising me to give, but I rather threw the baby out with the bathwater by not mentioning it at all! - hopefully it was obvious.
