I pot up most seedlings I find growing in the garden if I don't recognise them - just in case they are worth keeping. This shrub/tree seedling is now in its second year - any idea what it could be? Glossy upper leaf approx 2.5" long, downy underside. As you can see the top leaves droop - but that might just be because it needs repotting (Cat insisted getting in on photo : x Tig

Is it one of the Elaeagnus?

You could be right there Amo - I have a variegated one (ebbingei x Limelight) at the bottom of the garden, and we had another one, which seems to have grown into a strange tree and no longer resembles the original plant! So it could perhaps have seeded from that Thanks! x Tig

When I first looked I thought it was a Fushia but the silvery colour on the back of the leaves smacks of Elaeagnus so I'll 4th that. What did the cat think Tig ;D
