I have a 17" (42.5cm) CRT screen on the PC at home which is still going strong after almost eight years of fairly constant use. I am led to believe that it could last at least as long again.
In contrast at work I have use of a very nice 19" (47.5cm) wide screen LCD which is very easy on the eye and especially useful for Excel spreadsheets.
Loathe as I am to replace something that still works I am very tempted to put forward a new monitor as a suggestion for those people who don't know what to buy me for my birthday/Christmas.
One thing I have noticed is that when I view GWD at work it is almost like watching a tennis match from the side, and given that I sit much closer to the screen at home I wonder if that might be something of a drawback?
I was just curious as to what screens others used.

I have a 17" wide screen on the laptop which is lovely, once you're used to it, but it is quite small to read.
The main computer has a 19" but not wide screen. This is the one I use the most. I can read most things at a comfortable distance, especially now I have my glasses (!) but I do have one of these all singing cordless keyboards that has a touch slide that zooms or shrinks the screen very well or put's it back to normal instantly. A very useful gadget. I know there is one on the in the window too but it's easier on the keyboard.

Do I have to measure diagonally like with a television (why the heck do they do that?) - if so it's a 17" SyncMaster 710v screen made by Samsung. I like it

I have a laptop with 15 inch (I think) and the main computer is 19 inch widescreen which is great for viewing photos and watching TV programmes.

Sorry I didn't follow up on this thread at the time but the moment passed and at the time my old screen was still going strong. This evening I have had a momentary glitch and it sounded 'different' when it eventually came on so I think that I had better start researching the options. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

;D I'm quite tempted to go for an LG 19" wide screen like I use at work as they are very reliable and have good picture quality. PC World have them in stock at £97.86 ($144.58/€113.77) so that's also the cheapest. Not bad when you consider that my existing 17" CRT was getting on for £300 in February 2001.

For our employees who do some work from home, we supply the computer equipment which I think is only fair. Do you work from home any?

Mines only 14" but it's big enougth for me. In fact,I never considered the size of it before. As long as it works ok. ;D I do a bit of work from home mainly invoicing using "SAGE". I suppose a bigger screen would make it easier to see.

We have a 19" Dell screen which is really easy to read from compared to our old (smaller) one. I've really noticed my eyes going slowly down hill so anything that makes life easier. (I do have glasses too!)

Well, as half anticipated my old monitor gave up the ghost completely this morning effectively reducing my choice at a stroke to what I could find locally. I've opted for an HP w1907v which although slightly more expensive than the LG I was interested in, it doesn't have a bright blue 'on' light on the right hand side of the front panel. The LG screens at work don't have that either so I don't understand why LG have gone down that route with the newer models. The new screen is so much clearer than the old screen and is going to take some getting used to but on the other hand it takes up so much less space, so all in all I'm pleased the other one did go 'pop'! ;D
