I've tried both ways with the Kohlrabi and did'nt like either, I would'nt grow it again. I miss Beechgrove when it's not on too Rosefriend but it will be on this Sunday as is GW. I wonder if the coverage of the Olympic Games will put our programmes on hold again Rosefriend. I've just had a look Rosefriend. On Sunday 5th August Beechgrove and GW will be on but just check the times as I think they're on earlier than normal. 05.45 and 07.15hrs UK times. Thanks for letting me know Ladygardener, - I do miss Beechgrove when it isn't on and somehow even Monty doesn't annoy me these days...just wish someone would buy him some different clothes !! Olaf watches English gardening and Countryfile on a Sunday morning as well - well, if I mail him the TV times!!

Beechgrove was on last night, but it isn't on for the next fortnight due to some sporting event - wonder if the same will happen to GW

Both early tomorrow aren't they - at least I am an hour later... The gardening programmes always seem to have to make way for something Tig, don't they... Is it the Olympics this time perhaps??

Yes RF (it was tongue in cheek the reference to a sporting event, there will be a glut of it on TV for the next couple of weeks), fortunately Monty said GW will be on next week, although I found yesterdays episode snooze worthy!

RF don't worry you didn't miss anything worthy of note in my opinion. Basically how to cut hedges (for the umpteenth time!), a visit to a garden which grows grasses and to Croome Park in Worcester to look at the first garden Lancelot Capability Brown designed (so a lot of expansive landscape), Montys cut flower garden and him cutting some and bunging them in a big jug. Then taking some spent lilies out of a terracotta pot and sticking them in a plastic one to die back, and the terracotta one used for a yellow kniphofia. That was it.

Beautifully summed up Tig, it really was a bit of a waste of time Rosefriend, ( especially as he didn't cut the hedges or arrange the flowers well ) The best bit for me is the "what to do this weekend" but even that was only to cut things back to find places to plant spring bulbs ( didn't even say "mind the roots" )

I ended up ff'ing a good bit of it Tig . Only just worked out the 'FF' was fast forward ... not something else. But I guess they mean the same thing. Started watching some Garden Rescue with Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers on iPlayer today. Quite an interesting programme

Beechgrove wasn't as good this week, partly down to them holding a Q & A session in the village hall of the place they were visiting. Will have to hope that the hour long GW tomorrow makes up for it.

It has been rubbish for several weeks, I am hoping given an hour it have more useful information, although it is getting very late in the season to have extended it to an hour anyway.

Very interesting Rosefriend, I'd not heard that but think it's a very good idea. I already know Adam Frost and Frances Tophill through GW and different programmes but don't know Flo Headlam but I think setting time aside for small balconies or city gardens is a very good idea. wendya you might like it too with your balcony. Do you watch it?

Good, I like Adam Frost and Frances Tophill. Wish they'd drop MD though. They are going a bit overboard in all the gardening media regarding city gardens and tiny plots. Not everyone lives in an urban environment and not everyone has a small garden. When they show large gardens the owners have the incomes ( and help ) to go with it.I would like to see, just occasionally, pieces for people with larger than average gardens with a restricted budget and who don't want just lawns.

Wish they'd drop MD though. I'm glad it's not just me. I liked him when he first took over but he's past his best IMO. Nobody should smile that much ... Speaking of gardening on TV ... I wish the rip-off that is SkyTV would show more gardening programmes. The only one I can think they've dome is Show Me Your Garden - which was good. Unless I'm missing out on something I don't know is on

I can't cope with the channels I've got without having Sky! Quite enjoyed GW tonight. More variety, couple of bits were not that interesting for me, but may have been for others. Will look forward to seeing Adams garden develop. I do get fed up of seeing MD in one of his ponds, how many people have got big ponds?

Must admit that i really enjoyed GW last night. It's inspired me so much that i thought i'd zoom up to Kew today to have a look at the herbaceous border

It was much more interesting last night, I'm looking forward to seeing to Adams garden adventures too. small front gardens are the new thing so that's a good idea too, my son bought a new build on a new estate, they all only have a couple of foot at the front.

Went to Kew yesterday....i never grow tired of that place.
Anyway, i went to look at the herbaceous border which is still in its infancy compared to Wisley for example.
It was really a border of two halves.....the first bit i came to was quite drab (in my opinion) and was full of pinks and purples....fairly pastel really. However, as you moved down towards the end, it livened up with large drifts of Rudbeckias, Heleniums, Persicaria, Guara and other lovely colourful stuff which is more up my street.
I took some photos on my phone but it's a complete PITA downloading them to here....i'll see what i can do.

I enjoyed GW a lot this morning - wonder if Adam doesn't get his own Programme eventually, renovating the garden etc!! No matter what type of garden, it will fit and interest someone, whatever they show... Kew was marvellous - great pics andy, thanks, - I can imagine the herbaceous border will be magnificent in a couple of years - not bad now either!!

Beechgrove wasn't as good this week, mainly because Chris Beardshaw was in the pond faffing about with weeds and water lilies, and then creating planting pockets for marginals. Not many folk have massive ponds. Jim did some tomato tasting RF, interested to know if you've grown the one he really liked, but will wait until you've watched it on Sunday, no spoiler

However I think Jim only grows Hybrids, which I don't, so it may just be that I have heard of it...I try to stay up top of the names at least!!
