The squirrel pinches my fat balls, and the suet blocks, he drags the baskets under the shed, when we moved the old shed out we found them all under it.

I did make some fat ball once from lard and seeds but they were a bit fiddly so I just buy them now..I do put apples and raisins out for them still as well as sunflower hearts and the odd nuts..

It was definately human, most likely someone on the way home from the pub last night. I've made a feeding station on the oblisk at the end of the garden. Someone obviously reached in and just lifted it off it's hook. I'm raging. The other feeders are tied onto it thankfully or maybe they'd be gone too. At least with yours it's a little animal do the cats go for the suet blocks Louisa.? How wiley animals can be. I know the squirrels pinch Ruth's fat balls sometimes, holders and all. Yes, Lg, there's a tomcat that roams around here and he eats it - can you imagine that ?? If i asked my cats to eat suet they'd pack their bags in an instant, ugh

Louisa my cat turns his nose up at some of the food I give him, he would'nt look twice at fat balls. ;D How strange for the tomcat to eat them. I've often thought of making them myself but it's handy enough to buy them.

I saw that Wilkos had those suet blocks at the same price as last winter (2 for £1.50) ...... bought quite a few because all the birds love them - especially the Blackcaps !

If the weather is as bad as the forcast we had all better stock up for the poor birds, mine do like biscuit crumbs and brown bread as well though.

Yes, I have a breadmaker and always make wholemeal bread - I chop up the crusts for the birds and they love it! (My hair is straight, though! ;D ;D)

;D Would anyone like to come and catnap a black and white cat that's making my birds' life a misery ..... please ? The birds can't feed, won't even come down into the rowan from a large cherry tree, because of this b****y cat

I filled all my empty coconut shells (8) up yesterday and put 3 out when they where set it usually takes a couple of days for the birds to find out they are full again but they go made once they do, I put a mixture of breadcrumbs, nuts, wildbird seed and Meusli in the blender then mixed with dripping the birds love it up here. Missy you should be OK with the suet why not melt it and mix with the wild bird food put it in the freezer till set then put that on the bird table once they get a taste they will love it. Louisa get one of those kiddies water pistols and shoot water at it it will soon get the message and the birds will be a lot happier. I'm on the tree rat hunt as one is digging up and eating all my bulbs in the Veggies garden flower beds when I get the little blighter it will be no more.

I'm lucky my two aren't interested in the birds at all but won't tolerate another cat anywhere in the garden. Jillyx

That's great news about the LTT Louisa, I'm really pleased for you. Hopefully now that they know where they can get good food, they'll come back all winter.

Oh you are so lucky Barbara to have seen a Jay - very shy and timid normally I bought two very expensive cat scarers - they emit a high pitched noise if cats go near them - I could hear them and am not sure the cats could as they just sat next to them Also bought two plants that the cats hate the smell of and put them by their entry ports into my garden Made no difference - I have a dog too - she hates cats to bits A new breed of Warrior Cats is out there

I'm a cat owner and lover too but don't like it when the neighbours' cats come into my garden and stalk the birds.

Great news about the LTT Louisa, I've saw a few last year hanging about in next door's tree but they haven't ventured on to my feeders while I've been there to see them. Really glad we included a removable tray when we made the bird table, not only is it more hygienic to be able to bring it in and wash it up properly but it was so nice this morning to be able to bring it in to the kitchen to fill it rather than standing up the garden . All I need now is a roof to discourage the Wood Pigeons, I know they get hungry too, but I've now got 3 regulars & they're eating me out of house & home. Also I'm only there to fill the table first thing so it's probably empty by the time the little birds get there. Luck they can't get on to the feeders, although I have seen them give it a try which is quite comical. Jillyx

I'm bothered in the same way with a couple of pigeons who visit, I've even had magpies in my garden a fair bit recently. I've cut back a bit on the amount I'm putting on the ground since then.
