Oh you are so lucky Barbara to have seen a Jay - very shy and timid normally I bought two very expensive cat scarers - they emit a high pitched noise if cats go near them - I could hear them and am not sure the cats could as they just sat next to them Also bought two plants that the cats hate the smell of and put them by their entry ports into my garden Made no difference - I have a dog too - she hates cats to bits A new breed of Warrior Cats is out there I brought 2 plants in the spring...coleus canina and the cats hated them....didnt have one cat in the garden this year except the one on top of the shed roof... I put the suet out onto the feeding try this morning and now it's all gone...no idea what birds ate it as I was out...off t refill

Some cats can be a damn nuisance and that's from a cat loving owner of 2 cats ! Jas, i think if i brought a dog home, even a small one, my 2 cats would pack their bags ! This ruddy black and white one, which for the record's called Sylvester , is one mean hunter. I've seen it with a mouse and a bird now (both dead) and him and i are going to fall out very, very soon. Sadly, it's owner, a nice neighbour, will not be very happy when we do Ho hum As you know Sylvester's owner, would you be able to ask them to put a bell on its collar (if it hasn't got one already) and keep it indoors at the times the birds are most active (dawn and dusk)? There's RSPB advice about cats here, which you could show them if that would help: www.rspb.org.uk/advice/gardening/unwantedvisitors/cats/catowners.aspxwww.rspb.org.uk/advice/gardening/unwantedvisitors/cats/collarthatcat.aspx

Hi Juliet He already has a collar and i know if i asked his owner to comply with my/your timing ideas she'd make a rude remark, so i'll not go down that route, sadly. The woman seems to have gone away, these past few days, and the poor animal is roaming around even more than usual - don't some people make you want to scream i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/angry.gif

Woody Woodpecker is back! I wondered when he'd notice there were peanuts out again. He feeds in peace and quiet - none of the other birds bother him.

I really don't know, Missy, i have feeders there too but for some reason they just don't get used. My own cats aren't out very much, they prefer to go to bed and sleep than be outside ...... sensible in this weather, methinks !

The Blackcaps are back ;D ;D I saw Mr and Mrs in the rowan tree with the various finches. All the birds still come but they can't eat in peace because of that cat

I was having my late lunch yesterday sat at the living room window with camera handy but didnt get time to use it as I was counting all the types of birds in the garden and laughing there where 8 Robins yes 8 all at once on differant feeders at one stage there where 4 on the pole one 1 on each fat ball feeder 1 on the seed feeder and another one on the tray sharing with a Bluetit, they where so funny once they spotted another bird fighting and flying off. 3 very hungry Blackbirds I think one may have been a female as she was paler than the other 2, I Coaltit we never see anymore but he must have a mate, 5 Hedge Sparrows, about a dozen Bluetits and maybe 6 Great Tits, then the Mafia arrived (Long Tailed Tits) lost count after 14 it was very busy. Oh and I saw the Woodpecker sat in the top of a tree on the pond.

I've got no idea...I should have looked for clues in the snow ;D Perhaps it just fell or blew down and something has dragged it away. It's not the first one I've had just completely disappear.

Spooky ;D I suppose the wind can dislodge them and then they sail off along the ground and then who knows where they end up

Almost as spooky as my disappearing camera case and scissors! Both put outside in the porch for a short time, both vanished. I hope you find the bird feeder!

I've just popped out and got a bag of suet treats, since I invested in a bucket of 50 fat balls the birds seem to have gone off them i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif . I have noticed that I seem to have had less birds visiting since the weather got cold, possible because my cats don't go out in the cold so they're not there to protect the garden from strange cats. Perhaps though it's because I live in quite a built up area & when it gets really cold a lot more people put food out & they've got more choice, I hope so. Jillyx

It must be that - I've never seen so many birds descending on the feeders - and I have a lot of berries on shrubs, too - the Pyracantha in the back has been stripped of berries over the last week or so.

I feel really bad as Woody Woodpecker will be looking for the peanuts but our one lot of neighbours feed the birds too so hopefully he will look next door. It's very strange - I've never seen hide nor hair of any of the ones that have disappeared. No bird could fly off with it

What a shame you've lost your feeder Jasmine. I got one pinched the other day, which reminds me I must get Jenny to take me to the pet shop and stock up. ;D I've put out the suet pellets and some grated cheese for the birds.I've also stocked up their bird table with seeds and pellets too.

The blackbirds were eating snow this morning, probably no water around, they were fighting like mad over the food I'd put out, one flew straight into the patio doors in panic.
