I keep several medium sized plant pot saucers about the garden with water in for the birds. Its been hard this last week with sub zero temps but I've made sure they had water at least twice a day. I do get the Blackbirds and the Sparrows bathing in them, you hear the splish splash of water and wonder what it is for a second ;D they look soooo cute, hope to get a photo one day.

OH and I went on a mission today and bought more peanuts, and a new peanut feeder, more sunflower seeds and a suet block thing and a little 'cage' thing to hang it out in. I'm a bit worried about not being able to feed the birds while we are away but those suet blocks may be the answer.

They do like them Jasmine, more than the fat balls in my garden, I have 1 of them as well. I put the suet pellets into the peanut feeder today to try them as recommended by somewhere and the birds loved them. I also put out some water but it just froze over. I think lots of folk must be feeding the birds at the moment as they've not been coming as often.

That was a good idea to secure the feeder to the table LG. I do that but it's to stop the wildlife pinching mine...doesn't always work though. Took a while for the birds to pluck up the courage to go near the suet feeder but they'd 'found' it before it got dark!

The suet pellets I put out every day are gone before 10am so the birds have to rely on the feeders as well as the seeds on the bird tables when I'm at work and not home until after dark. Same when I go to Jenny's, it's good to know they've still got something high energy to keep them going.

They do have their favourite feeders don't they and then they have to move on to the left over feeders!

They have favourite food, too - the brown rice goes last, but it does go, so I'll keep putting it out. The pet shop where we buy our loose birdseed etc had run out of most things on Thursday - that's good, really - it shows that people are feeding the birds, doesn't it.

Topped up my feeders about an hour ago and the birds are flocking in, also put some water out for them and before I could get more than 3 strides away one of the regular doves came down for a drink Must remember to top the water up a couple more times today as its -5 atm so wil soon freeze over.

That cat wasn't around earlier when the group of long tailed tits were tucking into the suet blockes in the rowan tree - no-one else has been to it though I wonder if it's the same group who've visited the feeders in the back - they certainly go mad for the suet.

Louisa the LTT's seem to do laps around an area and normally stick to certain times of the day to visit, mine visit 3 times a day that I have seen and they never stay more than a few minutes so they could be the same group.

Update on the Chicken carcass ;D the birds have had a good nibble at it over the last couple of days, not sure which as I've not been keeping an eye. So as not to push my luck with encouraging cats etc I've now taken what was left down. I'm sure they have enjoyed it whie it was there ;D
I've not seen any LTT's this year although I have had them in the garden on the feeders.

I think they're my favourite visitors - I can't get a decent photo of them, though - they fly off so quickly.

I am retired Geranium ;D It's supposed to be really cold over night and through the first half of the day tomorrow, down to -9 so I've put an extra feeder out tonight when I topped the others up. There will be a rush for food in the morning for sure.

I read somewhere that Robin's have bigger eyes/better eyesight than a lot of the other small birds, maybe that's why he's always up and about early.
