Woohoo! Sunday is the shortest day and we can all start to look forward to the new season and I'll be itching to start seed sewing - where did those catalogues go

It is a day I look forward to with glee, because from then on the days will start to lengthen again and I will have a full sowing agenda which will start on boxing day with my onions, but also it will mean that all I have sown already is going to start feeling much happier, just like me x Tig

www.wicca.com/celtic/akasha/yule.htmAnd you could think Christians started all this. ;D ;D ;D It's my favorite I think. Even when you've had a good year it's just nice to put it all away behind you and start a fresh New Year and think forward again. It just feels right.

Very interesting Amo thanks for the link. I was sitting outside having a smoke this morning and just thinking about the start of a new year, longer days and happy growing.

As soon as we get to December 21st I start to feel as though we are heading in the right direction. I love it when you begin to notice the extra minutes of day light.

Hear hear! It was gloomy/dark at 3.35 this pm. Gives me a touch of SAD so it does. 21st is a turning point and I shall be even happier when Christmas is over and done with (in a bah humbug mood today!) Here's to January and the first glimpse of the Aconites!!

That's a good link Steve. But for UK, I have the ultimate 10 minutes from me. upcoming.yahoo.com/event/1419685I also meant to say, it's a bit sad that these places are totally spoilt by the over population of people at these times! A contradiction perhaps but these places you want to be at, don't go there. You won't see anything I get a kick just being in my own garden all year round anyway ;D

Still quite dark here too Amo but I can hear a few birds singing! Isn't it supposed to be 2 minutes extra light each day from tomorrow onwards?

It certainly is. This is the furthest south the sun will rise for us. It's amazing how close sun rise and set actually are!! Another 30 minutes to go, the sky is pinking up nicely and they've just opened the gates at Stonehenge.

We managed to cut mistletoe from our own tree this morning at dawn and it was really special!
Bit cloudy for the rise itself but onward and upward we go!!! ;D

But maybe you noticed it today Andy ;D I was at MssK to do the last weeding of 2008. Realized it was getting dark and made for the car...... It was 15 minutes later than before. Yippeeee. Depression beware I am about to get more and more light from now on. Speaking of which. I have not had a truly bad one since I work MssK's garden. Could be that being outside more I get more light or it could be that chemical thingy in the soil that stimulates the production of that human chemical stuff that makes you feel happy. ( Gosh I am still perfect at forgetting all those complicated names serotone ? something ) If any one read the article too please give the right names
